has anyone had a turbocharger failure?

My truck has been in the shop for 6 days now. They replaced both turbos. They got the truck running on the 4th day. The whine and other noises are gone. They found a new noise when the wastegate is open at low speeds. Ford said it was a cracked flex pipe letting in fresh air into turbo exhaust flow. Part did not come in on time and will have to wait thru the weekend for a hopeful 7th day return of my only work vehicle. The dealer did lend me a truck but it does not have a fifth wheel. Anyone else had these problems? 2008 F350 DRW,KR, 4x4. 12,000 miles on it.

Re: has anyone had a turbocharger failure?

The dealer where I bought my 2008 F250 has only seen two problems with these new trucks. One of those items was a bad turbo from the factory and a radiator issue.

Re: has anyone had a turbocharger failure?

#1 - The turbos are to be serviced as a set.

#2 - There is no wastegate.

#3 - There is no way that a cracked flex pipe would let in air. The exhaust is pressurized, therefore the exhaust would leak out, causing the noise.

Re: has anyone had a turbocharger failure?

I will know more tomorrow about the cracked flex pipe. That is what the dealer told me.

have not had a turbo failure yet ,but i am about to have a meltdown on my patience. have had truck into dealer for over a week and a half with a high pitched whining sound at about 2000 - 2500 rpm. they havent even looked at the turbos yet the #*! holes are more concerned with my dual exhaust.

seems like these dealers are trying to torque you guys off !! i would go back to that dealer goldfish1 and tell them what rlchv70 said. by the way rlchv70, thanks for all of your info it has helped me with other issues with my truck. as a first time diesel owner it has been very helpful reading your posts. squid i don't know how you have not come un-glued yet, but i hope they get past the pipes. do they sound cool?

this will sound really strange. but, i had a very high pitched whining sound that was coming from the hose leading to the fuel coolant reserve. a very ugly noise.

I realize you're frustrated here, and the pipes won't cause your problem, but if your exhaust bypasses the DPF or the cat, you could be in violation of some federal statutes. I don't like it any more than you do, but "facts is facts." Good luck with your problem, I hope you get it worked out.
