Head gaskets, bed plate leaks, rear mains

Yawn... What no issues with any of the above on the 6.4??? This site is basically DOA. Hopefully for a good reason. I have not read one post about head gaskets, head studs, bed plate leaks, rear main seal leaks, transmission issues, etc.. Save for the radiator leaks and the fuel mileage, after a year this engine is turning out to be a great winner. Now if only diesel didn't cost so much. Kind of sceered with rumors of the Ford produced follow on diesel engine for the SuperDuty line, this Navistar PSD is running so well, hate to gamble on the unknown. For the Ford diesel techs, have you seen any carryover issues from the 6.0, such as head gaskets, bed plate issues?

I'm no mechanic, but I have experienced "the tick". From different forums and some owners I know, there may be a completely different set of problems. It may be a little early to say this is a great engine. Or, more honestly, the engine may only be able to rise to a certain level of greatness simply because of the emissions equipment it is saddled with. I've experienced a few of Ford's better ideas. An in-house diesel may not be one of them. Just my .02

Your title scared me.

So far the only problems I've heard is radiators, sensors, and mpg. And if this engine wasn't so quiet, people wouldn't have to worry about hearing that tick. For all we know, all the 7.3s out there could have a tick and we wouldn't know it.

So far, here is what I have had done:
- AC not blowing cold (told it was normal)
- Squeeky accelerator pedal (still will not fix it)
- Whole clutch assembly minus clutch plate (started squeeking again)
- Passenger doors moved...got adjusted and repainted
- Had safety recall done on seats
- Exhaust fumes in cab
- Passenger door weatherstripping replaced
- Transmission leaked fluid...boot replaced on top of transmission

Luckily, my engine has been great...but other stuff has caused problems.

I know that yall are talking about the bigger problems that occur but I did just find that my second radiator is starting to leak and it is off to the dealer first thing monday for replacement. I love this truck and this radiator problem is what is getting me down. The first one lasted about 15000 miles. The second one has put in 20000 miles of flawless service until this afternoon when the leak was discovered. It may be a small issue but I get tired of having people jack around with my truck while I putz around waiting for results!

Hmm.. it seems the stickshakers are proving more troublesome than the autos.

Never had any of the above but unfortunately my truck has spent more time in the shop than at home. Stuck #4 injector (Cab Off), turbo lube oil line (Cab Off), replaced turbo (Cab Off), new radiator, Instrument Cluster replaced, & rear oil seal, Not to mention the infamous tick and fuel in the lube oil that Ford considers normal.... Oh and I almost forgot, my truck looks like a crop duster during a regin and it can't seem to pass a fuel station without needing more of that $4.75/gal go juice. What really sucks is that no one at the dealership mentioned the cab off procedure when I purchased the truck. Now I have to listen to several progressing squeaks and rattles. Had I known this before the purchase this truck would have never left the lot.... Now what was that someone said about a head gasket?

I think the Biggest trouble has been Fuel in the oil, due to job 1 High Press Fuel Pump casting and or injectors. Radiators have been trouble some for many Job 1 Trucks too. Other then that just little stuff from what I hear.

Guys are pushing 500 HP now with these trucks in stock form and 700 plus with injectors and some other mods.

Diesel Power mag is going to be doing an article about the 6.4L in the Next couple mouths!

Ah, yes. Another manual-basher. If you don't like them, don't buy one- I am on my third one with no problems, and the tranny is the same as it was on my '02. Seems the Torqueshift had issues on its launch in '03...

Here is an issue I need to have addressed but it is not a powertrain issue. The plastic fenders on my dual rear wheel truck seem to be a bit loose or just possibly affected by temperature changes. Anyway the upper edge of fenders is "working" against the painted steel bed sides, abrading the painted surface. Enough so that it will require repainting and somehow the fenders to be better secured to prevent this from happening again. I also need to take the truck in for the seat recall though I have not gotten anything in the mail, only by inserting my truck's VIN on Fordtrucks.com did I know my truck is affected by this recall. Also I have had the high idle during regen stick high even when the brake pedal is depressed, so I will ask for the truck's brains to be reflashed to the newest program. That is also suppose to take care of the full power, neck snapping acceleration when the "resume" function of the cruise control is selected. No ticks, no oil leaks , my engine's exterior is dry as a bone. Wonder what "rear seal" one poster was referring to.

Calm down, no need to take such offense over a transmission.

And you sir are the one being a basher. I found it funny for once the roles were reveresed since the auto is normally the troublesome transmission.

I'm glad things are going better with Ford's diesels. If I were in the market for a new truck fuel mileage be damned I'm looking at a F-450 in black! That particular truck is the best looking vehicle to have came out in a long time. I do wish the MPG were alittle better but it is what it is. I hope you all have good luck with your new trucks.
P.S. please don't tell anyone I'd actually said I would buy a Ford!

Just for curiosity, can everyone who post's any problems with their trucks to also post up their miles to date. That way we can see when and where any problems start to begin. Also it nice to see how many miles are on the new engine to help see longevity.
Thank you,
Benny
