If Ford wanted to really up the stakes in the 3/4-1.5 ton market they could start offering engine trans combo's like cats and cummins with 6 speed ally's trans as options. Just like the do in the F650-F750 class.
Example
6.4 L Navstar w/ 5 speed auto ford trans $5000.00
??? Cat w/ 6 speed auto alley trans $8000.00
??? Cummins w/ 6 speed auto alley trans $ 6900.00
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe that the addition of the Allison would eat up most of the $8,000 and then you would still have the additional cost of the yellow
"boat anchor". would be cost prohibitive.
[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I am concerned my 06' had an MSRP of over 50k. What difference is another 5 or 10k really going to make? All I was saying is that I would be willing to pay more to opt up to a better powertrain. I look look at it like I am already spending this large sum of money and have to question the reliablity of the powertrain, I would rather pay more to know I have a reliable powertrain.
Now for reality, Ford has already anounced that the new motor is going to be a Navstar 6.4 twin turbo for the 2008 model year trucks that will go on sale first quarter 2007. So really all I was saying was what I wish they would offer as an upgrades in the future. Its unlikely anything of that sort would ever happen.

Ford could make their own diesel engine and mate it to their own 6 speed auto transmission. We already learned from the Torqueshift that Ford can design a decent transmission. The large majority of buyers don't know that the Powerstroke is made by International. It's nice to say you have all this name brand stuff under the hood, but I don't want to pay $10,000 extra for it....especially if I can have something that works for me for $4500 less.
Either way, it's all speculation from our part. Don't forget - the next engine/transmission combo is already in out running in the test mules. It's just a matter of when Ford tells us what the next engine really is.

My immediate reaction is that you're wrong. There was a Ford transmission engineer that used to post on here and he talked of his involvement in the design of the Torqshift. He actually has patents on transmission design features under his name (searchable at at uspto.gov) so there was no reason to doubt him.
Googling for any relationship between Eaton and the Torqshift, it looks like they designed one of the modules used inside: LINK but that's certainly not the same thing as designing the whole unit.
If you're saying they manufacture it, I would also say that's wrong. For instance in this press release LINK Ford talks about how in 2002 they upgraded the Sharonville plant to produce the Torqshift there. (If there are any Ford employees still posting here, they could probably verify any of this...)

The TorqShift is designed and built by Ford. It does use some Eaton components (the troublesome solenoids are Eaton parts.) The trans is built at Ford's plant in Sharonville, Ohio.

international is discussing cutting the engine warrenty in half on the 08 engines due to alot of failure in the test mules due to high egts for clean emissions

Apparently your friend does not realize that Federal law requires almost all the engine components to be warrantied for 100,000 miles due to emissions.
An entertaining thought though, I suppose.......

I know a guy who knows a guy that used to work at Ford. He says that he heard from one of his very well connected friends over in Drive Train R&D that Ford is scrapping the whole 6.4 project and bring back an updated 7.3 to meet current emisions standards. Also, they are working with the guys over at Banks to get the turbo set up correct
this was a VERY firm source.
[/ QUOTE ]
The new engine will also no longer have EGR. I mean what idiot engineer came up with the idea of recirculating soot back into the system??
They dumped Banks in favor of turbonetics. They will also be using the turbomaster wastegate controller due to the inherent wastegate flaws of the VGT.
Steve Cole, Jody Tipton and Quad Boenker will be doing the programming. We all know what happened last time Ford tried to write a calibration for a Diesel Romp Romp Romp Romp......
Greddy will be supplying the exhaust systems. Expect 8 inch round tips similar to those found on rice burners.
They will also have a new "Rallye Pack" option which includes a column mounted Tach, EGT and Boost gauge along with taps on the intake for nitrous or propane, a K&N air filter and dash mounted 5 postion switch configurable for use with any of the chips that will be on the market.
These are just some of the options the dealer had listed for the 2007's.

Any chance of getting a set of ARB Air Lockers in this option set? Nothing against ford, but the Factory LS is no good at the track. Also What about a Hurst Short-Throw shifter for the hand-shaker models?
Maybe a competition clutch too?

Off topic, but I remember a fellow member in here telling a story about a 6 liter test mule in Colorado. He claimed to have talked to a test driver and that fellow told him to hold on before purchasing a new 6.0 because of injector problems. Well, loudmouth me challenged the report and insisted that Ford would fix a known problem prior to release. Boy was I WRONG!
So, let's see what happens, but as a true blue Ford fan, FOMOC can not afford another diesel disaster. Plenty other choices out there, well, at least 2 so far.

Well folks - the news on the test 6.4 is not much better. I cant divulge where this came from (want to protect the source) but there was a few of the mules at a high altitude dealer getting worked over. This is exactly the same route that the quote above was from (Leadville). I also believe I spotted two going through here headed south to the hot zone. Lots of truck bra's where you normally don't have them. The badge markings were missing and they had plain steel wheels. Only got a quick look, but got me wondering.
Now the good news. My doc indicates that the work on the bugs is going much better than before. You can bet that I wont be a first year buyer this time around. Ill sit this new round out.

I find this one hard to believe... With Ford looking for reasons to void warranties will they lure us into doing something that would make so easy? But I like the idea...
