Let's see if the count is correct. So far since 2000 we have seen three Powerstrokes from Ford, I count three versions of the Duramax and three of the Cummins. I think they are all even in numbers and in the horsepower race and they are all about tied. At nearly $5.00 a gallon for diesel, what I'm waiting for is the mileage race. I'm still driving my 2000 7.3, have more power now than any of the current production runs from any of the big three and get better mileage than any of them. The only thing I can't do is run as quietly, but on bio-diesel it is close. A friend recently bought a 2008 F-450. He could afford the truck, but not the fuel when towing. He sold it and bought a motorhome to get better mileage.

When they start seriously competing for the best mileage then they will get my interest. Until then, at $60,000 a copy, the new trucks are boring. Are you listening Ford?

Three Powerstrokes correct,7.3,6.0 and the 6.4 As far as the Duramax 6.6........... that has been the only one since 2001 and Cummins 5.9 and 6.7 that is all their have been also. That is counting the major engine changes as far as the liters are concerned. They have changed minor things to achieve emissions but if you are counting them then the 6.4 is on job 3 now and might have more.

For my 2 cents worth of what I think, when they up the millage to 20mpg+ even by drooping the horsepower rating back down. I'll keep my 96. I have ridden in a few of the 08's and while they are a lot nicer than what I have I can't see where the majority of the people on here need the extra horsepower or the torque except for the testosterone thing. I remember before the 6.9's came out and a salesman asking me what people wanted in a truck. All I said was that we need a truck that can haul the load at highway speeds, that being said who needs to haul their 40' fifth wheel up a mountain pass at 75 mph? So give me a 2009 or a 2010 that gets 20 mpg empty with less horsepower say around 300 along with a tilt forward front end so that the common person can work on it and I and a lot of others will be happy with a new truck.

I agree Jim...in fact I bet 250 HP would pull ANYTHING You would be able to stop with one of these trucks. What a lot of these RV pullers don't understand is they're supposed to go DOWN the hill the same speed they go UP the hill....and some places 70-75 mph downhill will park You in the kitty-litter will the wrecker comes!

Fiberglass tilt-front end is a MUST HAVE on these trucks.... Before #2 diesel went over $2.00/gal. I was pricing a lo-profile 4400 International with DT-466E & a 7-speed for just that reason....servicability.

BEN - There were substantial casting changes between the '96 & '97 models of the 7.3 PSD which effects part interchangability....and I know Cummins did the same thing with the 5.9. Just because a 7.3L PSD is a 7.3L PSD doesn't mean it's the same engine.
