Hydro-Boost Brake- Is this a braking device added to the diesels, like a jake brake or a braking device added in through the turbos, acts like a exhaust brake. I understand all the new 2008 super duty diesels have this, according to my saleperson, who heard this from a diesel tech at the dealership. The reason, is it came up on the build sheet at the dealer? But it would not accept the code, is this a possible Job 3 build option.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Bob

Hydro boost uses your Powers steering pump to give you power brakes Very handy on diesel applications and anything that may not produce adequate vacuum for the traditional booster
OK, I'm confused. Isn't hydro-boost the evil change they made to the Superduties (as opposed to the OBS trucks, which have a vacuum pump)? The thing that put the steering and braking into an interlocking death grip at low engine speeds? So you're braking just fine but now you can't turn the wheels?
I would think having not-hydro-boost would be the option to choose...

I guess I should say thats how the system(HYDRO) works not that it's more desirable GM has used it for years and it's an upgrade but I'm not familiar with Fords system and I couldn't find any good info on the current system? sry Z
I had it in my old GMC. It threw me for a loop a few times when I had to brake hard and steer hard at the same time. The only real complaint I had was when I lost the Accessory belt, due to a locked up altenator. I lost both power steering and power brakes. It was not fun.
I had a 1993 Chevy PU with Hydro-Boost. It was not an upgrade in '93, it came standard on my Silverado. The Chevy version does not put the steering & braking into an interlocking death grip at low engine speeds. The purpose of it is to save space under the hood by eliminating the huge power brake booster in front of the master cylinder.
My new Ford has Tow-Haul mode which is a transmission brake and it works well.
A "jake-brake" is an exhaust brake usually used on diesel-powered tractor-trailers and dump-trucks and is illegal to use unless it is an emergency because is tends to startle motorists.

Ford has as far as i know always had hydro-boost(assisted) binders on there diesel puckups until about now. Now as of hopefuly job#3 and not sooner(i dont want it as a surprise on mine) they will be putting vacuum assisted breaking like on cars and gasoline powered pickups, consisting of a vacuume pump on the motor and a vacuum diaphragm behind the master cylinder on all single rear wheel diesels unless dual alternators, or the limited availability hydro-boost option are ordered. The vacuum pump will take up the last accesory position.
I asked this on BON and some of the KTP employees stated that it was on the list of changes for job#3.

But the way they will have these with a vacuum pump on the motor the same thing would happen if the belt is lost.

The gm hydro boost has a canister built into the unit that gives you one more assisted brake after a belt failure I'm sure ford must have something along the same lines?
Yes, I believe that is true because I lost my serpentine belt on the '93 Silverado at 70 mph and I had no trouble steering or braking after the belt was gone.

Ford used a vacuum pump and vacuum assisted brakes on all older diesels until the Super Duties. The exception would be the F-Super Duties, they had hydro boost.
And you get a few pedal applications before you lose your power brakes if the belt comes off or the pump takes a dump.
So I can still order hydro boost if I like that better than vacuum assisted brakes? A vacuum pump is one more thing to clutter up under the hood, and one more thing to fail.

If you look at the specs sheet it states that all SD PSDs come with hydroboost brakes. Does not seem to be an option.
Hope this is what you were asking.

I really have no idea if the hydroboost is an option. I know all of my diesels 99-05 have had hydroboost. There would be no way that I would want a vacuum booster for power brakes compared to the hydroboost unit. The difference in braking is so much better with hydroboost. I like it so much I put it on my 76 Bronco. One of the best mods I have done.
