I just read something on the 6.4 that is quite amazing

This may be old news to some of you guys who do a lot of research but I was over on the Official Ford Truck site reading up on the 6.4. It states, and I quote, that with the precision of the Piezo injectors the engine will start in LESS than 2 seconds at 20 BELOW zero. Huh. That sounds pretty wild. If is true that is gonna be one sweet motor. I have never, ever heard a claim like this on a diesel. It probably had a disclaimer somewhere that said it had to be plugged in to do this, but I did not see one.

My year 2000 7.3L would come close to this. Under 3.5 seconds. Ah, the good old days.

The 6.0 might be alot quieter than the 7.3 I'll give you that but I have a 7.3 F-350 dually and a 6.0 F-250 and the 7.3 gets better mileage.

Registed today, just to answer this question?

My nose is stuffy and I still smell it.

A proper running stock 6.0 WILL get better mileage than a stock 7.3 under the same operating parameters

However, the 6.0 does have more power. If you USE that power, you WILL get less MPG.

Re: I just read something on the 6.4 that is quite amazing

Sorry to (re)iterate but you fail to recognize the power of the DUH FACTOR©. In this iteration it is if you use more power it takes more energy (ie. fuel)DUH!!!!! It is amazing how many people who use the loud pedal and yet still don't understand why the fuel economy is bad.

I for one wouldn't mind a little 6V149 from DDA, but alas they never marketed one.

Well in my case that is simply not true, sorry. I have put a lot of highway miles on the '97 F250, the '00 X (both 7.3L), and the '03 F250 (6.0L), and we drive the same way all the time, and the 6.0L has always gotten a MPG or two worse. (The other trucks would do 19, sometimes hitting 20, while the '03 gets 17-18 year in and year out.)

It also gets a couple of MPG worse around town, but I can't be positive that I'm not "using the power" there, so that's not quite as damning evidence.

The '03 has nearly 80K miles on it, so it's not a break-in thing, by the way.

I sure don't hear Ford touting that "up to 10% better mileage" line any more.

As far as being quieter, yeah, it's a tiny bit quieter. But it's a lot closer to the 7.3s now than when I bought it (when it had pilot injection.) So when Ford says "quieter and better mileage" and they so blatantly lied to me last time I heard that, I'm not buying it this time until I see the real world evidence.

[/ QUOTE ]I have to call BS on that. I have kept logs on every single mile on all of my trucks. I am actually trying to sell my 6.0L right now since I just bought another real diesel, 03 F350 4X4 DRW SC 7.3L/auto, it averages 11.5 towing and 17 empty.

Buying my 05 F350 6.0L is the biggest mistake I ever made, since the truck will not get over 12.5 mpg running empty. I can usually get that with any of my 7.3L's towing 14,000lbs, and 18-19 running empty.

I am going to wait another 1-2 years to see how the 6.4L does. Until then my 7.3L's are going to get run into the ground, rebuild, and run again.

I'd get that looked at.

BS or not, my 05 could get 20 on the highway (or more below 65 mph). My 06 dually will only get about 18, but it's only got 6k miles so far.

My 04 was a regular cab xlt. I think I could squeeze 23 mpg if I didn't push it, unloaded of course.

The BEST I ever saw on my 7.3 was 17.5.

Mileage seems to be a touchy subject these days. I didn't buy mine for mileage, but would complain if I only got 12.5 unloaded.

Re: I just read something on the 6.4 that is quite amazing

I have had my 05 to two different dealerships totaling 4 time, complaining about the mileage. And everytime they say "theres nothing we can do about it". They reflashed the computer once and it did nothing. I have my attorney looking into see if I can claim the lemon law on the truck. If not and the truck doesn't sell, I am going to get a SCT from Innovative Diesel and see if Eric can work any magic with it. Since 12.5 mpg out of a diesel is just plan horrible, I could have saved my $5,000 and got a V10 and had this mileage.
