Well I am not sure why the power is limited to be honest, but seeing as you are in Iraq, I though I just had to say, you are NOT a retard, you probably just have more important things on your mind right now. Thanks For serving & stay safe out there.

I think it is done to increase engine/drivetrain life. Most owners of F-450s buy the truck for heavy towing and are not interested in having the most hp the engine is capable of producing. I will say after having towed a 22,000lb fifth wheel recreation vehicle 4,000 miles recently on the flatlands and in some pretty steep hill country, I never felt the need for more engine power, a 6th gear maybe, but not more engine power. My truck held road speed quite easily at almost 31,000lbs GCWR driving up 6-7% grades, I passed many semis and other truck/rv trailer combinations on the uphill.

no worries about the serving, I'mjustglad I can do my part and maybe have some cool stories to tell later on! Thanks for the possibilities on the restriction, just wondering!
Capt, could you "site your source" on your downpower-theory?
I really dont see how a little more hp would "hurt" matters or owner preference when towing, especially since torque would be increased as well. How it negatively affects the drivetrain, I cant figure.
They are built to take the max ratings...with or without the "full" horsepower.
Back in '02 the 450's and 550's with the 7.3 were downrated from what the 250's and 350's had. Maybe because they feel most 450's and 550's will be bought for employees to drive rather than by the owners. It always seemed to me that the heavier load I was hauling the more power I needed to keep going the way I want to go. If I buy a bigger truck to haul heavier loads, I want heavier duty components and also more torque and horsepower.
