I seen one getting towed

Was in Arizona visiting my mother.
She lives southeast of Kingman.
To get there , I have to take the I-40 past Proving Grounds RD(Ford test facility).

Well we seen a new body style 2WD,standard cab, dually(painted polka-dotted for camo) pulling a box trailer. Pulling that rig , was a big tow truck....I wish I had my camera ready.

Re: I seen one getting towed

Some of those box trailers they tow contain drag dynos and weights so that a small trailer cna have a simulated load of a 18000 pound trailer. Don't hink that small trailer means break down when towing only a weenie trailer.
I always wondered if they have a simulation trailer that has 1200 pound weights that can move like horses in a horse trailer?

Re: I seen one getting towed

The saga continues, I wonder how many 6.0's got towed back to ford before they were released as well? I know that one truck is not representative of the whole lot, but if was something simple, ford could have fixed it without towing it in. I would have at least towed it back with another 6.4 on a flatbed just to keep the failure on the DL.

Re: I seen one getting towed

if you are Fomoco or any other employer and one of your employees gets killed or seriously injured working on a vehicle on the side of the road then you tow.
Also, the tools and equipment needed to investigate may not be so easily hauled with you.

It ain't always that simple.

Why didn't the Space Shuttle just take off when a hole in the clouds appeared?

Re: I seen one getting towed

Yes, I agree that there are liabilities, but I guess it just depends on what your definition of minor is. If it was a computer glitch the truck could possibly be fixed with all the diagnostic computer stuff these test trucks are saddled with, and I don't think they just let anyone drive their test trucks, so the person(s) in the truck probably know how to fix little problems.

Re: I seen one getting towed

they did not even go into production yet... so the trucks on the roads are prototypes. every manufacture that brings out a new version or model will have glitches. doesnt mean the 6.4L is going to be a bad problematic motor because one got towed in...
by the way, every prototype 08 superduty on the road at this time has to be destroyed when the 08's are released to the public.

I guess I don't know for sure if it was a 6.4...But why would they be wringing out a v-8/v-10 in a new body style S/D?

Just small talk. Also on the way home , I saw'ed a C.C shortbed next to the I 40.

Re: I seen one getting towed

IMHO, It is more likely they were just moving it from one location to another. It is cheaper to tow it then to hire a driver, pay for fuel, pay for insurance and run the risk of an accident or break down. This way the tow company (or sub-division) assumes all responsibilities.

Just like we are waiting for the worst! Maybe they should have a LOT of tow trucks ready for these new 6.4's.

Re: I seen one getting towed

It could be an older prototype that didn't have all of the "fixes" installed.

Man I guess the trailer is HALF full

I'm speculating it was a new SD with a duramax in it so they could test the competition without anyone knowing...

Yes, it probably was a new truck, but my GAWD, can we at least let the
darn things be released before their are considered a POS...

I know your just providing info, and that's all, but the specualtion that is already flowing is something..

Look at all those that were bettin the farm that the duramax's heads would melt in the firs 100K, now everyone is trying to make theirs quieter than the Duramax..

I sure hope that they fail now then have 30 knew updates in October...

Keep your heads up, let them at least get into production...
