Insulation

Aside from saving money, is there any reason why Ford would not insulate the hood? Is the heat dispersed more efficiently on the 08 so it is not required to save the paint on the hood, or was this left off the 6.0s as well?

Also, the passenger battery has an insulation type blankie, but the driver's side battery does not. Sup with that?

Re: Insulation

My understanding is that the hood blanket was more for sound attenuation than heat insulation. They dropped them from the 6.0 in 05 MY as a cost savings.

If its true they were for sound, the 6.4 probably doesn't need them.

Re: Insulation

My O4 didn't have the blanket either. I had heard a rumor that the reason for the insulation removal was that the heat under the hood on insulated models caused the windshield to get very warm resulting in a few cracking when cold water hit it. Anybody else hear that?

Re: Insulation

My 2003 had the hood blanket and I replaced 3 windshields, one each winter got a similar crack when cold rain started after a longer hiway trip. No reason was ever given so it could be the blanket.
