Job 3 Auto Idle Shutdown

I went to look at my f450 that arrived at dealer on 2-21-08,and found that they ordered wrong trim level. None the less i got to look at and play with job 3 truck. The auto idle shut down is factory set for 5 minutes. At 4 minute mark,a warning appears in message center that engine is going to shut down in 60 seconds. It then counts down to 0 and the engine does shut off.I dont know if setting can be changed or not.I ordered my truck without the pto provision so it may be different for them. The hydraboost brakes are tied into the p/s pump with lines running from pump to booster. Just thought i would pass this info on as i wait another 1-3 months for my truck to come in.

Thank goodness I got a Job 1. Have no desire for the truck to automatically shutdown. I think all 450's get the hydroboost, mine does, vacuum is on 250/350 6.4s only

With diesel fuel price headed where the persons in the know say it is headed, who will even know that it has this. Standing and idling will be too expensive.
Isn't the idle shutdown a mandated emissions deal on class 4 and up? I bet the amount of emissions from company trucks running is not something to dismiss. When the fuel is not out of your pocket why have a hot or cold truck in temp extremes?

I would like to have that for my wifes Yukon. I would love to limit the idle time. But I can see it being a pain when trying to warm the truck up in the cold mornings. 5 minutes sounds like a short time. I would have liked to see ten as a more realistic compramise.

If you got the diesel with the rapid heat system, then it should be plenty of time. It gets pretty cold in Ca. I think we saw some weather in the 50's last week.

The ford fleet site has a procedure to activate the Stationary Elevated Idle control (SEIC) for those who need it.

In park with no emergency brake it will idle for 15 min. then shut down. I think it is 5 min. if the parking brake is set. If you touch the brake or shift out of park the timer will reset. There also something about a min. temp needing to be reached prior to shut down. If I recall correctly it was something like 60 degrees for water temp. It is spelled out in the manual which is not in front of me now.
