Just Changed The Fuel Filters

I just changed the fuel filters on my 08 F250 today, 10215 miles, I thought maybe someone could use the info that I had to go thur to complete. First, the nut size on the filter tops is 36mm. I found to use a socket was the best way to remove the frame mount filter. I started with the frame filter, had to use the water sep drain to remove the fuel before removing top. Found that the wiring loom was in the way, its held in place by a zip tie. After moving the loom I was able to get to the nut on top of filer. After unscrewing the filter top I was able to get the old filter and top out by pulling down, not a real user friendly intallation, Ford could of done better!!! The top filter went real well. Just placed rags under the filter lip to catch the overflow fuel, still had some overflow/spill when I installed the new filter. Will not happen next time!!! I followed the user manual and toggled the ing on and off for 30 sec 6 times to purge the system, No problem starting after changing the filters
By the way I got my filters from dieselfiltersonling.com. They had the best price for the Motorcraft filters. Hope this helps

I use about 4 socket extensions to reach in from behind the transfercase, keeps fuel from running down my arm.

I'm a newbie and have 1 question

On the frame mounted filter, you said you used the drain lever for the water seperator before removing the cap. Will the lever drain ALL the fuel from the filter or will it just continue to fill up due to pressure? Ive drained mine like the manual says, and am familiar with Diesels, but not Powerstrokes. Just wondering how much to drain before I realize either its draining whats in the filter or its just going to keep draining. Thanks for such a great site and any advice anyone has!

When I changed mine, I drained the fuel/water separator before removing the cap, and got almost a quart of liquid before it stopped flowing....
