Just a thought.. Used purchases from a dealer....

I don't want to see Ford pay for someone elses tinkering...

But, I would highly suggest that anyone who buys a used truck, especially a 6.4 from a Ford Dealer, to get in writing that it meets emmissions, and it has no traces of a aftermarket modification.

Since it sounds like the dealer will probably have a way to tell if it has been modded at one time or another..

Just a thought.

I would be really torqued if I bought a used truck, have a warranty or emmissions problem 6 mo later only to be denied from someone elses tinkering.

That would suck!

<font color="blue"> WhiteDuallyIL ,

Sounds like you didn't do your homework when you bought the thing in the first place. Also, if you went back to the same dealer for service that you bought it from, they sound a little crooked. If they didn't know about the chip when they sold it to you, then I would wonder if they even checked over the truck to see what condition it was in before selling it. It's not Ford who is taking it out on you. They've paid for too many warranty claims that should've been paid for by the customer. They aren't the ones selling you the truck. That's the job of the dealership that you bought it from.

Re: Just a thought.. Used purchases from a dealer....

<font color="blue"> WhiteDuallyIL ,

I never said that you were a dumb$@#...I won't stoop that low. Having a working knowledge of the 6.0L and things that have gone wrong with it would have made you more keen on what to look for when buying. I for one would never buy any vehicle (new or used) that has been given a performance booster in the form of electronic enhancements. If the dealership knew about the chip when you brought it back in, and if it was the same dealer that you bought the truck from, then they SHOULD have known that it had a chip in it before they sold it to you. If they didn't, then they either 1) knew about it and didn't tell you, or 2) didn't look the truck over in the first place. Either way they don't sound like a very good dealership to me. If this wasn't the same dealership, then I would first take it back to the selling dealership, tell them the problems it has, advise them of the chip that was there WHEN you purchased it from them, and go from there. They may believe you and fix the truck on their nickel or say that you need to prove that the chip was there (not very respectable, IMHO). I somewhat believe that we aren't hearing everything that is going on. Also, now that you've been "flagged" by dealer as having a "modified" truck, you may have a hard time getting another dealer to not know that it is chipped, even if you remove it. I really do wish you luck...consider this a potentially expensive lesson learned on buying used vehicles!

Re: Just a thought.. Used purchases from a dealer....

i did take it back to the same dealer. sorry if i came off a little harsh its been a bda day so far. but i think they knew it had a chip in it when they sold to me anyway. but after the problems started with that truck it broke down on the highway when the egr clogged up and couldnt tow my 45ft horse trailer then a bad turbo i traded it in for a chevy cause i needed a another truck right now. but yes everybody should be carefull these days cause dealers dont care. i think in my case the dealer knew it had a chip in it and sold anyway with warrenty and when i bought it the truck was not flagged i checked. the dealer knew that nobody would buy a 35 grand truck with only 10000 miles on with no warrenty so thats why they let it slide then when it came back in they got you.

Re: Just a thought.. Used purchases from a dealer....

Dually, you need to call a ford service rep above their heads. The previouis owner cannot be sued by ford, so according to law you can dfind out who it was. They'll likely admit it was chipped. That puts the liability on the stealership. They owe you. With a lawyer you can embarras t he hell out of them. If you are in a bigger town the newspaper story on it will make them cry uncle alone...

Ford doesn't sell used trucks, dealers do. It's the dealer you need to be going after and bad mouthing, not Ford. As was said, Ford should know if a warranty claim was denied by a dealer based on something they implied so they can address it with the dealer.
