I had my diesel tech take my truck for a run to see it the hesitation I feel is normal or not. When jumping across a intersection, put foot to floor, count 1,2, and on three the truck takes off. Tech said he didn't think it was normal. BUT, computer didn't show anything so I got the regular shoulder shrug. I am not looking to break the tires loose, I just want some forward motion when I ask for it. Anyone else seeing this?
It's the factory Trans Tuning its poor. Mine did that too, until I reprogramed the trans with good trans tune. There are some good and better tuners out now for the 08, some have better trans tuning then other, try one to see if it helps.
Try this:
Push on Brake pedel some fake the truck into thinking theres a load and it will go off the line better.
My pickup is the same. It's actullay faster to ease on the fuel for a second or two before you put the foot to the floor. Really frustrating the 1st few times it happens, but I have gotten used to it.

Try driving a stick! I have found that my truck will snap your neck between gears if you get into the throttle half way after you shift, give the computer a split second to catch up, then mash it to the wood. The first turbo does a fine job of combating the inherent turbo lag of the 6.0, it just takes awhile to get used to it. Good luck.

Its not really the trans. Its the throttle. These are "fly by wire" computer controlled vehicles, and the stock programming is set not to put smoke into the atmosphere. The DPF is there to catch what gets by the programming.
CARB & the EPA want NO particulate matter out the back end of a diesel. Black smoke is essentially impartially burns fuel, and is harmful to the environment in many different ways. In a turbo diesel, when you step on the accelerator, the program asks for more fuel, and then checks to see if there is the correct amount of air being provided to FULLY combust said fuel. By stomping on the throttle, you are asking for more fuel than there is air to burn completely, and the computer says "eh, wait a sec, not enough air, ok, turbos up, now add fuel.." (or something like that). So what you see is a hesitation till the turbos builds boost, then it dumps fuel, and snaps your head back as rpms jump past 1.8k.
Anything that increases smoke, will increase the frequency of regens, and decrease the overall life of the DPF.
If you REALLY need to jump across that intersection, you have a couple of options. Rolling into the throttle is the best, but it does take a split second longer. Power braking - standing on the brake while building boost - is the next, and a tuner that changes the throttle response is next. The last may have negetive affects on the life of the DPF and cost you fuel economy.
