Mileage feedback

Things I have noticed over the last 10,000 that affect mileage.
I have 7:33 20" wheels, manual

Regens drop mileage if a passive regen can't be done while driving.

On hot days when the cooling fan kicks in, mileage drops

Drive to a low boost level

I have noticed a subtle "cackling" from the engine when under load. If possible back off and reapply power keeping just on the silent side. Seems to affect mileage a lot.

Strange but true, mileage drops off as you get closer to the 10,000 change. What point? I don't know yet.

As much as I like blowing off the ricers, it kills mileage (but is a LOT of FUN!!)

Re: Mileage feedback

I'm hearing that 10,000 mile change come up quite often. Am I just nuts, doesn't that seem like a long time between changes?

Re: Mileage feedback

That's the recommended change interval for the 6.4. Lot of the (automotive) diesels have gone to 10,000 changes, but they are usually running full synthetic oils

Re: Mileage feedback

Yeah, 10,000mi changes is becoming standard today. 10,000 isnt really that much if you're doing highway miles. I know (and to the disdain of those whom hate hearing about my Honda) my Honda never uses any oil between 10,000 mile change intervals and it is still light-amber/gold in color. Not even dirty! Its thrilling, to me at least.

Also, in the manual, Honda doesnt even recommend changing the oil filter until every 20,000 miles! (I dont do that though--every 10,000 for me).

Its a great way to conserve oil. Imagine getting rid of all those "3000 mile" oil changes and replacing them with 10,000 to 15,000. Tens of Millions of gallons saved every year nationwide. Not to mention all those filters not going to landfills and requiring steel to build.

Its very smart business for both automakers (offering low maintenance) and to consumers. It is, however, bad news for those "instant oil change" places.
