My service truck will be at 18000 Lbs day in day out. Has anyone beem pulling a load enough to know what the mileage will be at that weight? My '01 F-450 usually gets between 7 and 8 MPG. I do a lot of city driving and a few long hauls a month ( If you can call stop and go on the SO Cal freeways Long Haul).

In that much traffic, I'm not sure the 4.88 will hurt you too much. Try not to gun it through intersections, and I bet you'd get 7 'round town. Probably won't see much more than that on the highway, though.

Your going to get about 6.5 around town and about 7.5 on the highway. I routinely pull anywhere from 14,000 to 24,000 with my F450 with the 4.88 gears. The real killer on the mileage is having to come to a complete stop multiple times and then getting all the weight moving again.

I pull 20k most of the time. I have the 4.88's and get 8-9 mostly hwy but some city mixed in. The killer is keeping it at 65-70mph on the hwy and not letting it run. high RPM's kill the mpg.

If I can get 8-9 pulling 20 I will be happy. Spent close to a grand on fuel in last three days, mostly at 6 mpg. My new 550 is getting built in 10 days and I am getting excited to sit in a seat that is not so dang worn out.
