My FX4 in it's natural habitat

Picked it up Friday Night. Loaded my quad in and drove down to meet our riding group in Ocotillo Wells. Just trying to put some mileage on it before I tow in the next two weeks.

So far so good. Truck runs great. Shifting seems a little more "clunkier"(if thats a good description?) than my O1 V-10 Gasser.

Also one of the folding mirrors folds in and out a little faster than the other. Anyone else notice this?

Lastly I had a scare that I put about a third of a tank of low sulfur or regular diesel in it. But it turns out the station had the stickers on the side of the pumps not where the actual pump handle goes. I thought everyone in Ca was using ULSD by now but the guys in my riding group who have diesels say there are still some stations that dont.

I wonder what would you do if you were out in the boonies and that was the only gas available? Would a third of a tank regular diesel mixed with 2/3s of ULSD hurt the engine?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: My FX4 in it's natural habitat

Damn thats an awesome looking rig. Is the hood popped on the third pic. Oh and by the way, I used to live in San Pedro. We lived on Sapovatia street or something like that and my dad used to own the 76 station on the corner before you take a road down to the water. Thats all I remember, we moved to wa in 94.

Re: My FX4 in it's natural habitat

Yeah the hood is popped. I took the pics after everyone was checking out a how much or should i say how little room was in the engine compartment. One of the guys in our riding group works for a local chevy dealership and even he had to admit the truck is sweet.

As for the 76 station. Its just mechanics shop now the pumps are gone they dont even sell fuel anymore.

I noticed the duel exhust tip but also noted (I think) that your fender vents are black. Am I seeing this wrong?

By the way, Great looking truck. Congratulations!

The red vents are a dark red, and pictures from a distance don't usually show the color very well. In Pic3 you can see the slight red tint.

On my truck they almost look like a badly faded red.

What color is that? Black, or is it how the dark blue looks in the bright sun?

Casual, I'll have to pass that on to my dad. We haven't been back there in years. No back on topic, I wasn't a fan of the painted grills but after seeing yours, I might be changing my mind. Again, nice looking rig.

Re: My FX4 in it's natural habitat

I just pulled this off of the Chevron Web Site. This should hopefully calm your fears of non-ULSD availability. The ULSD was simply added to the Diesel tanks at the stations and allowed to mix. By now all the tanks should have diluted out all of their LSD, unless they are a very low volume seller of Deisel, but that is somewhat unlikely. Please refer ti the below.

"When is S15 (ULSD) required to be produced and sold?
Introduction of the new 15ppm diesel into different portions of the diesel fuel supply channel will be managed through staggered compliance dates. For North America, there are currently three S15 (ULSD) implementation timelines.

United States (except California)

On-Highway Diesel Fuel
Refinery < 15ppm by June 1, 2006
Terminal < 15ppm by September 1, 2006
Retail < 15ppm by October 15, 2006
Off-Road / Locomotive & Marine Fuel < 500ppm by June 1, 2007

California

On-Highway, Off-Road, & Fixed Equipment Diesel Fuel
Refinery < 15ppm by June 1, 2006
Terminal < 15ppm by July 15, 2006
Retail < 15ppm by September 1, 2006
Intra-State Locomotive / Marine Harbor Craft Fuel < 15ppm by January 1, 2007"

Re: My FX4 in it's natural habitat

Thanks for the remarks guys.

Its a blue truck. the vents are red for the diesel. Mine also look like they were left in the sun too long a faded red color.

Thanks for piece of mind with the diesel.

Not too jack my own thread but this means you could go to a dealer with the ulsd sticker and potentially get a mixed diesel perhaps 200 ppm or more. What does ford have to say about that? I really find it hard to believe that even a little low or regular sulphur diesel would hurt the motor. Perhaps if you only ran it tank after tank you could probably ruin the emissions system or atleast clog it a little sooner.

Re: My FX4 in it's natural habitat

That's a sharp looking truck... love the no chrome look and the CC/LB! If the time ever comes to buy a new one, that's pretty much the exact truck I'd buy.

I post a picture of my '04 in its natural habitat, but I don't have any of it on Ford's service rack.
