My mileage report

Just got back from a trip to Daytona, Fl. Me, wife, luggage, and motorcycle. Speed 68-70, mostly cruise control. Hand calculated milelage, 14.4. I kept reseting the dash read out, and it was all over the place. 13 - 19. Truck ran great, but that same trip in a 2005 6.0 cost over $200.00 less last year. Of course fuel is well over a dollar more per gallon, but the 6.0 got an average of 17.9 mpg. Another note. Had a 2003 with sprayed in bed liner, and the rear motorcycle wheel left a dent in the bed the first time I carried it. The 2005 had a drop in liner with no damage. Guess what. Unloaded the bike with this truck that has a sprayed in bed liner, and there is a noticable dent where the rear wheel set.

I plan to haul my motorcycle in the back from time to time, so I find the dent issue interesting, indeed. So, is it that the texture is keeping the motorcycle from 'sliding' and therefore not releasing some of the force in the bounce of the bike? Maybe a piece of plywood under the rear tire could stop this?

Don't feel too bad. Even the new Dodge 6.7 Cummins engine doesn't do as well as the 5.9. So far my MPG has ranged from 15 to about 16.5 driving empty. With 14,000 lbs in tow its 9.5 to 10 driving 62 MPH on cruise control.

My old '93 gets 19-20 MPG empty all the time, city or highway. Guess what I use as my daily driver? 151,000 miles and doesn't use a bit of oil.

Too bad the government has plugged the new rigs up so bad with emissions stuff.

'99 Dodge 2500 CTD QC 4X4 Auto, 4.10 rear, Edge EZ, only 117,000 miles

'93 Dodge Ext Cab CTD 2WD, auto, 3.54, no mods, only 152,000 miles

Unhappy

I Have a 2004 6.0 With an edge programmer, exhaust, air cleaner, new heads with arp head studs, new injectors, new turbo with a3 inch lift and 35 inch tires and we only get 13 mpg going under 70mph. When towing our 34 foot toyhauler which loaded does'nt weigh more than 11,000 pds we only get 6 mpg driving under 60 mph. Doesn't matter what setting on programmer its always the same. Anyone have any info that might be helpful?

Check another 08 with the same bed and I bet you will find the same DENT! I have one in mine and so does my neighbor. Really showed up with the spray in liner..

It's not that flat spot thats in all the beds, its an actual dent. On the 2003, I made the mistake of loading the bike with the tailgate on. It dented the tailgate so bad, I took it to a body shape and had it repaired.

Kind of surprizing, but I guess the center of the bed just wasn't meant for it. I'd trying putting a piece of plywood underneath it next time, maybe it would help out distribute the weight the bike. A little dent in the bed gives it character. How was daytona by the way? Did you see Vinnie and Cody's first bike?

how about a Panda Bed Mat? they are thick 3/8in and indestructable. I've had one for years. I load the truck with all kinds of stuff over the years. Including a 4k Lance slide in.
