My truck has the shakes?

My 08 F350 does something that is driving me crazy and was wondering if any of you have experienced the same issue.

When I stop at a light then take off my truck has a very strange shake, I can feel it everytime I take off. It shakes enough to make my visor move. BTW, this happens with no load. Could this be part of the shudder problems alot of people are having? Any insite would be appreciated.

No lift. But lets say it was, what would cause the shakes?

Sounds like the driveline angle. I've had one of my trucks do that and they had to shim it at the dealer. It has to do with the loaded/unloaded angle of the shafts and rear end. I think you have to decide where you drive it mostly (loaded/unloaded) and have them tweak it for that.

Does it do it in Tow/Haul mode?

Could be clutch plates in the auto tranny, or torque converter. Usually these are suttle and mostly noticable under a load.

if it is lifted, it could be either the carrier bearing or the the rear end wrapping up a little and causing a shudder.

Likely it's just what 03six0 said....axle wrap allowing drive line angle to change & causing the U-joints to bind and shudder. Ford knows about it. Some design for a heavy duty truck, eh?

See thread below (trans shudder under load). I'm picking up my truck tomorrow morning from Grody Ford, Buena Park, CA. They've shimmed the drive line & want me to try it. We shall see! I'll post results on my previous thread when I complete a test run.

Re: Old Mose

I just got off the phone with Grody, seeing if they had an answer to the shimmy problem. Asst. service manager (Chris) claims he has never seen this problem. I asked about your truck and he claims he has no idea of anyone with this issue. This is the same I've gotten from all the dealers I've been to, I'm the only one with the problem (aka Deer in the Headlight stare). Even told Chris that Ford is aware of this and has shim kits to try to resolve this. Not an offer to help look into it or whatever. Boils down to having to "dance" with Ford trying to get bonifide warranty work. So let us know how all turns out.

Richard Read is my service advisor at Grody Ford - and he will know me (Ron Jones) and my truck. I picked up my truck yesterday after they installed one shim at the driveline center support. I haven't noticed any difference empty and in city traffic, but that was the case prior. I still need to test it empty at freeway speeds, and loaded with my 12K 5th wheel trailer. Soon as I do that, I'll post the results.

Richard is working today and Sat. this week, and Monday next week. He's off Tues - Thurs next week.

Good luck!

I went thru the different thickness of shims and empty, didn't see much change. The tapered shims on the axel really messed things up, even empty. But once loaded with my gooseneck, with any of the shim combos, that shimmy raised its ugly head. I now have a stack of 4 shims and the angle is way off when empty and, when starting up a hill, empty, the vib is there. I put airbags and that helped. Good luck on your end!

I think its the roads. I have 75lbs in the tires and notice this only on certain roads. Usually were stop intersections are. Are trucks have so much torque and the back is light the truck hop's over this slight impressions from everyone stopping and going in the ashphalt.

My f450 as this problem and it has a tare weight of 11,090 lbs. It has a dump bed on it that weighs 2500lbs so I would not call that light. Mine does it even when I put 5 ton in the bed. The mileage and the shudder are junk. OUR trucks shouldn't do this.

Like I said, my issue is when I stop then go, feels like my rear end is twisting and/or the driveline/pinion moves upward under force. It's VERY annoying. I noticed if I rock my truck back and forth in park by turning the rear wheel there is twice as much twisting of the rear end when compared to my son's 2006 F250 so I'm starting to wonder if my problem could be due to the longer leaf springs on the 08?

So I took my truck in and had a service manager do a test drive with me. We did at least 10 stop and go’s, I pointed out the visor when down how it shakes and the strange feeling the truck makes. Long story short, he said they all do that, my reply was does that make it right? Yes! he said with a straight face. It’s apparent Ford has no clue of what the problem is or knows it’s a design flaw and they have no intention to fix my/our trucks. All I can say to that is FU Ford and this will be the last one I ever own.

FOR SALE CHEEP!!! One 2008 F350 Harley Davidson POS paid 58K, sell 5K or best offer or will consider trade for Tundra

do yo have the thick overload springs on the back that come with the camper package? I do, and i get no twisting of the rear end, even with my lift.
