Need some Opionons.....

I'm just getting into the diesel truck world here and I have a question, I know you're supposed to watch your boost psi and exhaust temperature. Question is if I just want to monitor the vitals of my truck what unit or setup should I start looking for to do this. I really like the pod setup that blends into the dash somehow. I ordered my 6.4 three weeks ago and just wanting to know what I need for when it arrives. Can you just order a monitor or do you need to get a tuner also? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks....

Didn't I read somewhere that someone had a warranty claim denied because of a gauge? Could be rumour but I swear I read it somewhere.

Anyway, I'd checkout ISSPRO, a little costly but nice gauges. And no, you don't need a tuner to get a gauge. I think that's the misconception some dealers have. They assume that if you have gauges you must be tuning.

101, Are they pillar gages or a pod type. Any web address for them? Here's a thought, even if I'm reading vitals of the truck couldn't I remove the monitor before warranty work? I thought I read somewhere that dealers can acknowledge if your tuning because of the ecm keeping some type of history or is that another topic?

I just installed the Edge Insight monitor in my truck. The optional pod looks factory when installed and so far the Insight gauge is exceeding expectations. For the price of $279 for the gauge and $45 for the pod this setup is hard to beat.

Bearsfan, are you happy with the Edge Insight? I saw that listed elsewhere but thought I had to get the tuner also. Was it easy to install? Trying to get my P's and Q's straight so when my truck arrives I'll be ready to go. Are you running a turner or just monitoring?

That looks like a nice display. If you're looking for analog:
DieselManor - Taking the Mystery out of Diesel Performance™

The most difficult part of the installation would be the tapping for the sensor install.

Question about the pod for the Edge, do you loose the oh sht handle?

Mine came with boost and ex.temp guages in the instrument cluster standard.

Can't say for certain about the accuracy of the OEM boost guage but the trans and engine temp guage suck. The most important add on guage is the EGT. If you're adding that you might as well add an accurate trans. If the OEM boost is accurate I might swing for an oil pressure or engine temp guage as well.

Sprinks542, I am very pleased with the Edge Insight. The install is a piece of cake and you do not need a programmer. The Insight gauge plugs into the OBD port and displays the info that the computer sends to it. I am not running a tuner because the truck has more than enough power for my needs--I just like to keep an eye on things. Also, this product works as a code reader as well so if the computer throws any codes you can read them with the Insight. Hope you enjoy the new ride!!!

You have me curious now. You say the unit does not require external sensors? Does that mean the computer receives information like EGT and accurate trans temp? This might be an option for me. I've always shyed away from guages because of the tapping that needs to be done.

No sensors need to be installed. The EGT's are received from sensors that are installed around the particulate filter. This gauge is truly a plug and play type of setup.

The question was about monitoring your vitals of your truck without a tuner. I'm thinking they leave footprints to answer your question. I do recall maybe one, but that's another topic or post. Maybe start a different post and someone can answer your question there.
