Ford is building a new 6 speed transmission. I'm not sure what platform it is for but my guess would be the diesel trucks. Does anyone have any like info?

Not really much info on the new 6R140 trans at this time other than it is a replacement for the 5R110W TorqShift which is supposed to be discontinued at the end of the '09 model year. So I would not expect to see the 6R140 before 2010...

I don't know about your timing. I know for a fact that components for a new 6 speed trans are being manufactured as we speak. I am guessing they have accelerated the program. I will check my source again and get back.

Anything is possible, but I have seen nothing lately that would lead me to believe that the program has been accelerated in anyway. I do believe that "components" are being made but at what level? I highly doubt that they are at production level.
I know within the past couple of months that companies such as MSX International, Acro and Collabera were looking to hire design/release product development engineers and design/release pump components and sub-assemblies support personnel for the 6R140 program in the Detroit area. I would tend to believe that such personnel would not be needed if it was ready for production.
I hope that I am wrong, so any further input would be appreciated...

It's about time isn't it??? Man, Chevy has had a 6 speed Allison out now since 2006 and Dodge since 2007.5. Why is Ford dragging their heals on this one!!??..............................SW...
Ford has to do something about the tranny, if not to just keep up with the others. Plus, having the extra gear should help slightly on economy. But then again, they really need to rethink the engine and tranny together. I'd like to see what the resale value of the 6.4 will be when close to or at 100,000 miles. Even if they were problem free, still the cost of removing the cab to work on that bugger would not be pretty without warranty.
This would also be my best guess... 2010 marks the new emissions requirements and this will probably be the end of the 6.4 as far as light duty trucks are concerned.

Shouldn't be an issue. Not all Super duty applications allow cab removal because of service body or equipment mounting above cab.
Dual service procedured are provided so that cab off/on is not required.

Cab On/Off 6.4L Diesel Engine Service Procedures
Models Affected: 2008 Model Year F250/350/450/550 6.4L Diesel.
Description:
The Ford recommended Body-Off procedure allows the technician to complete certain repairs on the 6.4L Diesel engine more efficiently. However, if the vehicle equipment does NOT allow for body removal, ALL repairs can be completed with the vehicle body in place. The workshop manual contains both Body-Off and Body-On repair
procedures.

I just got an email about the Super Duty from Ford and it mentioned a 6 speed automatic. I couldn't find anything on the website though so it may just be a typo. I liked the Torqshift in some respects but it really needs 6 gears after driving an Allison.
You would think that Ford would put tilt forward front ends on the Super Duties, just like the larger trucks. Then you don't have to take the cab off to get to the engine that they stuck so far back under the dash you can hardly see the turbo. How much more would that cost them and how much would it help resale? I know I would not be as concerned about having to work on it in the future. The engineers that designed them the way they are, should be required to have to pull the heads and turbo off and work on one of them...after they are good and dirty too! They would change how they make them after that.

I hear ya on making the engineers work on the stuff they design. The 50th time i changed the starter on my 89 firebird, I was ready to go abduct the head engineer from GM and make him change it for me.
