Anyone else get a "Meet the '08 Superduty" giant fold-out mailer from Ford? One whole side of it is the F450 picture and specs, while all the other nooks and crannies of it show off the new features and engine.

Yep, got mine this week, and I think the reason they keep showing the F450 pickup is because it is a new addition as far as the factory bed, the biggest and baddest and can haul the most of the factory trucks w/beds.
The first thing my Dad said when he saw it was: Man, that thing is big, sweet!! And then he asked if I could get him the wheels, and I said: sure, but we'll need a few extra F450-550 parts!

i got mine too, disapointed about the 450 being 25 hp less and 50lbstq less tho.. i ordered a 450 King ranch with the 26000gvwr, i think they should have only lowered the hp and torque for the 33k-gvwr. rep also called and said that if you order the heavy tow package you will see the truck march 15th at the absolute latest. and it will be longer if you keep the order with the 4.30 gear ratio because of a problem they are having on availability of the 4.30 (26k) axles.

It's easy... as long as you are OK with whatever the price turns out to be! Usually it's done as "$n in relation to invoice" or "X-plan price" or something as an understanding with the salesman, and then you finally find out what the actual number is once the pricing shows up and the truck is built.

I think it's safe to say that anyone ordering this early is not an especially price-sensitive customer...
I suspect the pricing will be out for quite a while before the trucks are actually built. So ordering now lets you get in line now, but there would still be plenty of time to cancel the order if Ford pulls a "December Surprise" and prices the F450 at $70K. Personally, I'd only do this sort of preorder with a friendly, knowledgeable, reasonable sales person, so that nobody ends up feeling shafted if the deal doesn't go through because the pricing is unreasonable, and I wouldn't somehow get stuck paying an unreasonable price just because I'd preordered.

It's been discussed elsewhere in these forums... A 450 is more likely to be a vehicle that needs to haul heavy loads while lasting forever... with off the line acceleration not as important. The real medium and heavy duty truck manufacturers do the same thing: offer identical engines with different programming for more or less HP and TQ, depending on the needs for the truck.

And you can do the same with an "off the shelf" chip, unfortunately without Ford's warranty blessing.
