I have had my new truck for about 2 weeks, and so far I love it. I have been reading this forum since July, and the info here helped me decide which truck to get.
Gas mileage is not great, as expected. My first tank, with no trailer, was 9.9 mpg. I have 1500 miles now and I am getting 14 mpg with no load at 60 mph. Better would be nice, but I can live with it. I bought it to work, not win mileage contests.
I pull a 32' gooseneck. So far I have delivered 2 loads of hay and 2 tractors and I am getting 7.5 mpg while towing. Absolutely no problems pulling.
I like the truck more than I thought I would. The only maint. so far is a new starter that was installed at the dealer before I got the truck.
Most of the regens so far have been on the highway with the cruise control on and I did not notice them. The only one I noticed was when the mpg dropped from 14.2 to 12.5 in 10 minutes.
I did have one regen out in a hay field, and it did get hot. Good thing we have had plenty of rain this year. I would like to be able to disable regen when the truck is parked. Does anyone know if there is a mod coming for this?
They run better on diesel fuel..........JK. A joke all newbies get sent there way...........

I would not have offended a new owner. I say welcome and joy your truck. Most posters on here are pretty helpful cept for a few sore heads.

Seems like it bothered you more than him......BTW since you feel everything has to be so ordered, why did you not take the time to try and answer his question rather than try to flog me......relax. I would have answered his question, but I don't do mods, don't like mods, and frankly would never suggest a mod on a brand new truck. Plus I kinda like the guy, after all he drives a Civic, one of my favorite vehicles.
It takes a lot more than that to offend me. Since this is my first diesel, every time I fill it up I am afraid I will put the wrong stuff in it. Diesel is the green handle, right?
As far as the regen question, I am hoping Ford comes out with a change. I am not against mods, but I won't be changing anything not approved by Ford until the warranty is out. If anything does go wrong, I don't want to have to fight that battle. Same with biodiesel, I want to use it, but I won't go over B5.

Believe it or not on a recent trip to the Smokies I actually saw regular unleaded with a green handle. If I am not at one of my normal service stations I am so paranoid that I actually smell the end of the handle and look to see if it all greasy around the hook-up, then make sure the diesel price is in the meter window. I think the regen deal is here to stay for a while, but ultimately they will figure out something different. It is probably one of the most bothersome things about the 6.4. I bet you just get used to it, but from the reports here it can be quite disconcerting in the beginning. Good luck with the new ride.
Congrat's on the new truck Treehugger, you can't tell by the color handle between Gas & Diesel, the Shell station by my house has the Green handle, the Valero all the handles, gas & Diesel are Black. The only thing I have noticed, is the Diesel handles do not have the emissions sleeve at the end to trap gas vapors.

Kingtut, I was also paranoid initially about putting the wrong fuel in my truck. Folks on this list have done it .... and I know a dealer that did it just three days ago.... sometimes it happens. But most people don't do it ....
To help me focus, I do not say stop for "gas" .... I stop for "fuel". Drives my wife crazy ... but it keeps me focused. And, sometimes you will find yellow diesel hose nozzles instead of green....
Enjoy your new truck .... I have 147k miles on mine and still love that diesel!

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. I was considering hooking up the BCP already based on some posts about extended idling. Now that I know it can postpone the regen while I am parked I am going to do it.
I do not think the BCP route (purple/brown wire) will override the regen. BCP regulates engine speed based upon the degree of battery charge only.
I believe the you would have to use the PTO route (yellow/green wire). Applying vehicle battery voltage to this wire begins the SEIC process. Which...
• Signals TorqShift™ transmission to enter SEIC strategy.
• Verifies safety enablers.
• Turns off OBD and other emission-related monitoring. This part is what you are looking for.
Hope this helps, it's just my shadetree mechanic understanding of the ford PCM monster.
I wonder if anyone who has wired the BCP option to an upfitter has undergone a regen cycle with the switch on?
I was loking at the Diesel Engine Regeneration section on page 3. It seems to say that if a regen is needed, and you turn off PTO or BCP, the regen will start and keep idle high.
As you point out, the table on page 6 lists turning off OBD under PTO, but not under BCP.
Has anyone out there tried this with PTO or BCP hooked up?
