New here...quick question about my 6.4

Hey All!!! I don't know if it's been asked yet but here it goes... I have a '08 350 6.4l and have had nothing but problems with it from day one. I regrettingly traded in my 07' 6.0l and have been kicking myself ever since. My truck seems to blow alot of black smoke when accelerating and grey smoke when coming to a stop. I get about 200 miles per tank as far as mileage goes which is breaking the bank. Ford replaced the DPF and it ran fine for a week and i actually got better fuel economy but now it's running ruff again and smoking like a dream. Could the regen be running all the time? OR is it not running enough? I don't notice the regen except for every once in awhile unless it is regenning when I commute and I do not notice it. I have a desert trip coming this Turkey Day and will be hauling my 18k lb fifth wheel and do not want to get stuck out in BFE. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. The dealer says that Ford has a hold on all calibrations and they don't know what to do with it. But in the meatime I'm stuck filling up every other day until then. I love my truck but I think this is the worst Super Duty I've ever owned and I've owned several over the past 15 years. Thanks all.

if its blowing black smoke then it needs to go right back to the dealership. I wouldn't trust it to tow squat until all is fixed or they give you another truck.

I suggest you look up the Lemon Laws in your state and keep good records. This Truck is JUNK and it is a shame since it looks and rides very nice so as soon as you can get out from under it. This truck is a victim of a bad engine design and the EPA.
Started Lemon Law on my POS, fingers crossed.

HEHE THANKS GUYS! I was also told that the current state of the 6.4 is not meeting the emmissons compliance that the Feds and some States are passing in the coming years. My question to Ford is How the hell are we supposed to keep are trucks on the road and within the law?

If your blowing black smoke the DPF is trashed or cracked. I've been reading tons of stuff on these engines and all the issues guys are having. I must be one of the lucky ones as I've had zero issues to date. Job1 truck. Mileage is around 12-13 city, 17 hwy@ 69 and 14-16 pulling my atv trailer. Regens ave ~700-1000 miles. Hope they get you running right, as I do love they way they ride and look.

LOL Yeah...I love the ride and look but it's just breaking me at 5 mpg. When they replaced the DPF, it ran fine for a week and I actually went 3 1/2 days without refueling. I dunno...I hope they figure something out soon...

They did, get an aftermarket tuner like the Spartan and get rid of the POS DPF. You'll gain 4-5 mpg and never have to worry about regens ever again. The amount of mileage you put on the truck the warranty will be gone quickly anyway. Why not gain 200+ hp and get way better mileage?

Great idea so when it breaks your on the hook for thousands of dollars of repairs. Remember the engine warranty is 100,000 miles. Plus if you live in a state that has emmisions testing you FAIL without the DPF.

Thanks but no thanks to the aftermarket stuff. I hear the motors are 12k to replace..if not more. I'd love to have more HP and better MPG but I love my money more. LOL

You may want to search around for another dealer, I can't imagine they would not fix or replace the DPF if it were cacked or bad. Second they have a hold on the new flash but if you went in and asked for TSB 08-13-02 or 03 (depending on Job build) I'm sure they can do that. Hell tell them it's shifting funny and/or the cruise resume is messed up. This should lead them to this TSB. The hold didn't effect that flash level. This is the current one running in my 6.4 and I don't plan on haveing the latest one done at this point when it's re-started. It's worth a try. I would be pretty bent up if I was in your situation also.
