No power when trying to get unstuck?

I've gotten stuck around my property when plowing and I noticed when I go to give it gas after sanding etc. to try to get out I don't get any power and the wheels won't spin or move. The truck just boggs down.

Is this what they call Turbo Lag?or maybe the truck had cooled down and I didn't have the power? I don't remember this happening to my 7.3.

Fortunetly I haven't got stuck enought to give you more infoon either trucks but I noticed this and it got me thinking about it and maybe how to prevent it again.

But if I'm to guess I'd say the truck was cooled down and didn't have the power to go and or spin the wheels. These diesels are different then gassers like this right?

The stall speed of the trans is probably the problem. You have a 4X4, so put it in low range.

I bet it is the traction control. My Dad's 08 F-450 will light them up no problem with the T/C turned off.

Doesn't the traction control automatically shutoff when you put it in 4x4? I think mine does.

Sorry folks: I had it on view in display mode and just saw Captcaper's post, not the replys.

Hey Captcaper: I'm just wondering if you have the traction control option. I have my first F350 on order and I didn't order traction control because that what happens to a friends 08 if he has traction control on. I'm going to be new to diesel and the SD fords but not 4X4 drive,so please excuse the newbie egnorance. I'm interested in the answer also. I'm sure someone on this site will have the right one.

I don't have Traction Control ..At least I didn't order it and it doesn't snow on my Window Sticker..but it's something else when I go to give it throttle and nothing..

Maybe it got cold as I dug out snow and put sand around it and I didn't have enought power to start the tires spinning?

I did put it into low range to get the wheels moving a couple of times. I don't understand the post above about the trans .. It felt like it had no power.. No rpms, etc. just bogged down. This has happend a few times while getting stuck..

Why am I getting stuck? lot's of ice under snow and heavy front end with 8ft. fisher plow and nothing in the rear and sometimes I do had 600lbs in the rear and still end up sliding just enough to get sucked in..

I do own a very aggressive set of chains now.. just came in Fri.

Captcaper: Well if you don't have a switch "TCS" left of where the trailer brake control on the dash(or would be if you have the trailer brake control), then you don't have it, at least that is where my friend switch is, just a thought.

I have experienced this as well. both in my personal truck (2008 F-350) and work truck (2008 F-250).
What happens is the truck defuels for the first couple of seconds when going from forward to reverse. It makes it impossible to "rock" the truck out of the snow or mud as you can't keep the momentum. Extremely frustrating as this was all it would take to get out of a number of situations. Working on very large construction projects puts you in this situation plenty of times.

Would be nice if there was a workaround for this.

Could your air filter be clogged with Ice and or Snow? I don't know if this is possible with a plow on the front, but just a thought... I have read on here where this new front end was having issues with this. I would discuss this with your dealer. I think they have something to fix it. Good luck and keep us posted please...
