now I understand "power stroke"

this is one man's review of my new truck
08' f350 diesel 6-speed manual reg cab with good options
my favorite is the engine/transmission match
I drove an automatic diesel and was not impressed, the stick made all the differnce, to have all that power and control is awesome. I keep figthing off joy rides (bought today). This will be a work truck and I know it will handle all my needs as a construction worker (jack off of all trades). It never runs out of power on steep hills, I will tow a bobcat tommorow and I know it will pull great. I am coming from a Toyota Tundra (I know you die hard ford guys cringe at that, but I would have kept driving it if all that was available were f150's). I am glad I can finally buy American.
sum up: this new beast is my 2nd favorite truck, second only to my dad's f650

any advice for new to diesel engines, or how a diesel should be treated diffently than a gas, would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy that new ride. Just don't tow that bobcat too fast.

Warmups are primarilly key, in cold weather (under 40). A few minutes of idling on those soon-to-come wintry mornings will help the engine live perhaps a little longer, and a little better.

Re: now I understand "power stroke"

Biggest thing is remembering to use DIESEL and not gas.

Also make sure the wife or anyone else knows if you let them use it..I've seen to many posts on here "wife put in gas, what do i do!"

The manual says not to tow before 500 miles.

Enjoy your truck!

Re: now I understand "power stroke"

I have a 36 foot gooseneck car hauler that I pull with my 3500 srw 3500 dodge. The dodge is an '06, totally stock, and has 3.73's. It kinda struggles taking off up a steep hill when the trailer is heavily loaded-I'd like to strap it to an '08 ford and compare. I'm pretty sure the '08 would annihilate the '06 dodge, I'd just like to feel the difference for myself. Hell, for that matter I'd like to strap it to a 6.7 cummins and new duramax as well.

I don't have the money to go buying another truck right now, and I don't need one anyway. It would be nice to joyride though.

Re: now I understand "power stroke"

That's basically for the drive line to wear in, especially the rear end.

If you take it easy on your stops & starts, vary speed with the trailer on it, it should do just fine. I like to find a old section of highway with some curve in it, where you have to go from 35 to 55 on a regular basis.

Re: now I understand "power stroke"

that wasn't a typo, just a little self-depricating humor

Thanks to all for the advice, I still love the thing but my 8.5 month old pregnant wife won't ride in it anymore, I am trying to convince her the diesel hum will have positive effects on the baby.

Much better to grow young minds than classical music. It has been clinically proven, if not I would like to apply for government funds to do the study.
