an observation

http://www.maxxforce.com/products/co...aspx?classid=1

the VT365, the International version of the 6.0 was rated by International at 200hp +\- and Ford did their own electronics to get 325 from their version.

the MAXX Force 7, the International version of the 6.4 is rated by International at 200-235hp +\- and Ford did their own electronics to get 350 from their version.

is there a pattern here?

Re: an observation

Yes, the pickup truck consumer wants more HP. We also aren't limited to reduced speeds on the highway.

It would be nice if we were offered a lower HP, higher torque alternative, but...there would still be those that would chip it. lol

We desire car-like performance from our trucks, thus...they build them that way.

Re: an observation

That doesn't mean much. MD trucks run under higher loads a mucher percentage of the time so they are always derated.
The only Cummins 5.9's that got anywhere close to the HP numbers of the Dodges is in marine and emergency vehicle service.
Ford is derating the 6.4 in chassis cab 450 and 550's according to sources here.

Yeah, but one of those 5.9's is rated WAY higher than in the dodges. That one is 425 hp and 902 ft/lbs. Also, marine duty is harder than pickup truck duty...which is probably why 5.9's routinely make so much more power than their ratings without a bunch of dumb [censored] happening-rods a'dancin, gaskets a'poppin, etc.

Re: an observation

My guess is that this may be what the lawsuit between International and Ford is all about. International not wanting to share the cost of warranty issues with the hoped up Ford version of thier engine?
