Oil Analysis

Got back my 3000 mile oil analysis from Blackstone. Other than the wear metals being high. which is normal for a new engine, the oil was reduced to 30wt.

I know that the 6.0 shears the oil due to the HPOP, but it was my understanding that the 6.4 does not.

What would cause the oil to shear in a 6.4?

Have other received similar oil test results?

Did the report say anything about fuel in the oil? I don't know how much it would take to drop the viscosity to 30wt.

No fuel in the oil..

Other than the high metals, everything seemed to be OK.

Just can't figure out why the oil would be sheared.

Yours is only the 2nd 6.4L oil analysis I've seen. You say you've heard that shearing isn't an issue in the 6.4L. Is that based on oil reports or just general perception. I'll be watching these closely. Give us an update next time you sample.

John, I'm going by what others have said. The 6.4 doesn't have a HPOP like the 6.0, which was the cause of the shearing.

Given this info, I don't understand how the oil could break down, as least weight wise on the 6.4.

Was this original oil? What is the truck shipped with? I never sent in first oil for an analysis because I never knew what came in it from the factory.

This was second oil change. I drained the factory fill at 1000 miles and replaced it with Delo 400 15W40 and ran that for 3000 miles.

And yes, they do come with 10W30 CJ4 oil from the factory.
