Oil Cooler + Coolant Loss?

I just got my 05 psd 59k on it back from the dealer for coolant loss. They said the Oil Cooler was bad. They also said they tested the EGR Cooler and it was good. They replaced the oil cooler under warranttee. My question is can somebody explain how I could lose coolant with just the oil cooler being bad. Where would the coolant go. They said there was no water in the oil and did not expect head gaskets. I just don't understand where the coolant went if the EGR Cooler was not leaking?

Please explain this to me I am a drywaller and don't have a clue!

Thanks
Dave

Wrong forum, but I'll answer anyway. If the oil cooler was the source of your coolant loss, then it could be an external coolant leak and leaking onto the top of the engine and/or the ground. However, typically it will lose coolant into the oil.

Oil cooler and coolant loss

You might want to have the engine oil tested for coolant and diesel fuel in the oil? When you have it changed next time? It is cheap compared to engine wear. When they change parts under warranty have them show you the parts and explain it to you.
