Oil Drain Plug Gasket

Morning all,

Getting ready to change the oil in the truck for the first time and I was wondering what size gasket is on the oil drain plug (the part store could not look it up) and if I really need to replace it when the oil is changed.

Thanks

Is it a copper sealing washer? I've reused the one on My '96 something like 110+ times.

Not sure what it is made of...have not changed the oil yet. I've done a bunch of oil changes on the 94 Bronco and never had to replace the gasket....but I recently heard where the gasket should be replaced everytime you change the oil?? (and I don't recall who said that).

I probably won't worry about replacing it.

Mine is copper - size M14. Although I've reused copper washers before without any leaks, I just feel better putting a new one on - especially while the warranty is in effect.

I've heard that it should be replaced too but in all the years of doing my own oil changes, I've NEVER done such a thing and have never had any problems in not doing so. For my '08 F250 PSD, I bought a Fumoto Valve so that oil changes are that much more easy! Haven't put it in yet because I'm only at 4500 miles. :-)

65,000 miles on mine and I have on my 3rd gasket. After 4-5 oil changes they start to leak. Checked the torque on the plug and found it to be correct but it still leaks.

I went to my local dealer where the parts guy knows me. I picked up a new drain bolt with copper washer for $4.00. It is now on-hand in case of a bad day.

Leak

My drain plug leaked even with a new gasket (copper washer).

I will install the Fumoto ASAP.
