Oil leak

last thursday i noticed some small quarter size oil marks in the driveway.
my truck is a 2008 f250sd powerstroke 6.4. with only 4000 miles.
Imediately called the dealer and they looked at it today.
They say it is the bed plate leaking and oil is getting between the engine and tranny and leaking out the vent.
My delima is that i live in west virginia and have to be in california on july 14 to start work on a new job. will be there for 10 months. they said i can leave it and they will start work on it but it could take up to 3 to 4 weeks to get it back.( will probably need a new engine) they called their hotline and they said i can still drive the truck and it wouldnt hurt anything as long as i keep an eye on the oil level. i have been driving it and the oil level has not dropped on the dipstick in 5 days of driving. will get it fixed in california.
even let me see the paper work where it says it is ok to drive it and they know i am headed west and it would not void my warranty.
Has anyone else had an oil leak caused by this?

A lot of "bed plate leaks" are actually misdiagnosed. It is more likely coming from somewhere else like the dipstick tube o-ring.

Also, you won't need a new engine. They can replace this seal. Engine will have to be removed from the truck, tho.

Another thing - there's no way the oil can get between the engine and tranny and leak out the vent.

Glad to hear you didn't have too much down time. It is stuff like this that makes me never believe what a dealer says.

Just had mine in for drips on the garage floor. I thought it was just the drain plug, but dealer replaced the front main seal.

Glad to hear it's been fixed. Mine was leaking and they originally thought it was the rear main seal b/c of the amount of oil that was everywhere. It ended up being the o-ring seal for the dip stick.

I have two leaks that I found. One's tranny and other is oil. You can see the oil starting to come down the motor I think. I only looked real quick. Going in for its first oil change on Tuesday. Only 4500 miles on it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Send a message via MSN to Stewy
I had a leak with mine as well, it turned out to be a cracked drain plug...go figure.
