oil pan protection/undercoating

Hi guys;
Question about undercoating an oil pan...is it ok to undercoat an oil pan on a ford deisel engine? Remember, it costs about 2000.00 to lift the engine or cab to replace an oil pan cover. Ford oil pans are known to rot out after 4-5 years...i've heard that from many ford owners as well as different mechanics..I want to undercoat the oil pan with waxoyl, a product that has been successful in the european market for 30+ years. But I wonder if there is any danger of restricting heat loss through the oil pan, because of this undercoating. I can't see any harm, since the engine already has an oil cooler on it (Ford deisel engines). So the question is, will there be any danger of the deisel engine overheating/damage due to undercoating the oil pan? I am getting the truck undercoated with waxoyl and I thought why not do the oil pan as well? Thanks for any advice. JimmyMD.

naw go for it or just coat it every once and a while with rustoleum. Although, since you are going to undercoat the oil pan be sure to do the whole truck. It is shocking how fast these trucks rust.

Before thinking about undercoating the truck, be sure to consult the Ford docs, I think the Body Builder's Layout Book has the info. Basically, you can't undercoat a good 50% or the truck due to the high exhaust system temperatures lest the whole thing go up in flames.

I appreciate the heads up.

I did have both of our trucks rust proofed and undercoated. Lucky the guy like my 08 and nearly dipped the truck in the undercoat paint and their Zeibart rust proofer.... :-) So i have high hopes...our 05 had more under body rust then my 19yr old suburban... I would suggest everybody take a look under your trucks, our 05 had a ton of rust on the sides (under body) and behind the rear wheels (underbody). We do keep our trucks for ever, so i plan to be driving these trucks for the next 20 yrs.

I did mine myself as well. I used the Rus Fre system. That was 2 years and 50K miles ago. I got it as close to the exhust as I thought I could go but not behind it as much.

Has anyone used Fluid Film on their truck,you can get it in spray cans for do it yourself apps. I was thinking of using it on mine seems easy enough to apply. Randy

undercoating

I have started to use rubberized undercoating on mine. Just a bit at a time. Mine is a 2005 and quite rotten already (cant tell from the outside but under it looks rough) - Looks very nice after the treatment

I removed the rust, coated with POR15, then used rubberized undercoating. I am about 50% done thus far. I also coated the chassis with POR15. I have gone though about 6 cans thus far.

Then, I coated the inner door seams, body parts and tail gate seams with oil. (We have done ths to our fords in the past and it appears to work well - we also have a 95 van with NO RUST.

I wish I could have had it done but it was just too much $$$ when compared to $7.00 a can.

yea it was expensive ($340) but they did the underbody, frame and wheel wells with the undercoater plus they sprayed the inner body with the rust proofer. Luckily, ford does supply body plugs so they just remove the plugs, spray and reinstall the plugs. I was quite happy. Will go back in two years and have it done all over again just to be sure. I did the same with the rust, scraped and then painted with rustoleum so when they did their thing all of the rust was taken care of... These trucks are just too expensive to rust that fast, it is unacceptable in my opinion. What ever ford does to rust proof they need to do better.
