6SPD, PLEASE don't use your truck to commute only 2.7 miles to work. That is just not enough time to let it get to operating temperature and keep the batteries charged, let alone let a regen complete.

[/ QUOTE ]

i guess we will see. all my trucks have done the same trip to work with no trouble. i don't have much choice in the matter and yes by the time i am half way to work, to truck is at full operating temp. this is the big city, stop signs every 6 blocks, school zones, etc. its takes me about 17 minutes to get that far.

Re: OK, THIS ONE IS IN THE DRIVEWAY

[ Your dealer is either very, very friendly or desperate to sell a truck. As picky as most folks on this board are about their trucks I can't imagine one of them buying a truck that someone has drove around a couple of days putting a hundred miles or so on the odometer. Each time I have bought a new vehicle I am suspicious if it has over 25 miles on it. Reason being, it has either been test drove a bunch and not purchased or the sales team is using it for lunch runs. I test drove a bunch of PU's a while back and most of them had less than 5 miles on them, but a couple had 80-100. I absolutely would NOT purchase a vehicle if I knew someone had driven it around for a couple of days because I would assume, maybe wrongfully, that they used it pretty good to see what it was made of, brought it back and passed or picked out one that that had no useage since they did not like the "color" of the one they drove around.

[/ QUOTE ]

I an not going to spend $50K plus and not know if I will like the truck. Also would not back away from a truck with 100 miles on the odometer. If the truck can't take 100 miles of use I don't want it anyway. And when you deal with the owner instead of a salesman you get that kind of service. This is a big purchase, if a dealer can't give me the service and attitude I like then I will take my business down the road. This to me is the plus side of working with a small town dealer. They know you when you come in the door and will shoot straight. I guess I would rather be a big fish in a small pond. Everybody is different, that's just me.

The F-450 may seem a little more bumpy and stiff in terms of the ride and handle. This has to do with the F-450 suspension (springs) and the tires on the truck are not soft at all either.

Re: OK, THIS ONE IS IN THE DRIVEWAY

FIRST impressions on a very short test pull. just got the hitch hitch in today, butholes scratched for me, but at least it small.
truck did better than i expected. i ran a short ways down the highway, about 4 miles up then turned around and 4 miles back. and probably 30 city blocks to get to and from the highway. averaged 6.8 on reader thingy. set cruise at 72, NO DOWN SHIFTING!!!, tried it at 68, and same thing. good strong power band, with the gear hopping. odd thing was, on the way back she did want to shift into 5th while in town at 45 mph. on the way out it did this and was very impressive.1500 to 1600 rpms, 45 to 47ish mph, good strong feeling, not like was towing my 41 footer, but of course i was. now the only thing is, the trailer was not loaded. no bikes, and no water. so 1500 to 2000 more will be the loaded version. i do not think it will make much difference. the only place i was a little surprized was the take off. not as well as i thought it would be. it was not slow or lacking, and has more power than my old 6.0, but i guess i expected a tad more. i did not jump on it as she only has 300 miles on her. forst fill up said i averaged 9 hand calculated, but who knows how full it really was.

Re: OK, THIS ONE IS IN THE DRIVEWAY

You must be a patient man to go 2.7 miles in 17 minutes on a daily basis. Personally, I'd have a $200 bicycle to cover that distance (no offence intended). On another note, you might want to consider what that sort of daily trip is doing to that expensive engine. Send a sample of oil to Blackstone Labs- you probably have alot of unburned fuel in your oil.

Re: OK, THIS ONE IS IN THE DRIVEWAY

i reclocked it and its actually 3.7 miles so i must of just mis spoke, but yes where i live is too far to try and get on the highway, and taking the "in town highway" does not go any faster and it puts more miles, so i take a 2 lane road, with stop signs and school zones. sometimes its a pain, but mostly its just a ride to work.

Am I the only F250 only getting 13mpg. and of course worse when towing a 30ft gooseneck with 300 bales of hay. We did load the truck with options, it seemed like I called my dealer back at least 3-times adding stuff. Then when the truck gets here we have to spend more money to put in a hitch, spray in bedliner, those window cover things, hands free phone etc. I will hopefully have this truck a long time. What color did you go with? </div></div>

Umm how do you get 300 bales of hay on a 30ft gooser? thats like 10 ton of hay on a 3/4 ton truck? plus you would have to stack it what, 7 high? Just curious cause I used to put up alot of small hay bales but now only do the 1 ton bales, Thank God!

Re: OK, THIS ONE IS IN THE DRIVEWAY

The weigh ticket said 33,760lbs total weight with only 250 bales. After we get it here we will reload this winter with 300 bales for local delivery. Do you think I can justify the need of the F450? 10 runs of hay 6 high, 30 bales to the run = 300 bales, start loading back and front, meet in the middle and there's no problem. Start at the front only and you can only get 9.5 runs on. I never go 7-high unless it's straw and a local run. The new trailer on order is a 35' with 6'neckover, aluminum. I should be able to put a good size load of straw on that.

The largest load I have pulled with my truck is the gooseneck loaded with 17 roll bales weighing 1200-1300lbs each and a 26' wagon behind that with 14 rolls on it. I figured the total weight at around 60K. Local back roads 25-30mph. The last load I lost a wagon wheel and dragged the hub the final mile and a half and didn't know it until I hit the driveway of the farm.
