Question P0088 Error Code -HELP!!

2008 F350 6.4 with 120,000miles. Service engine light came on. Had dealer read codes and came back with "P0088 Fuel rail/System Pressure-Too High"
Service tech indicated probable high pressure fuel pump. If replacement required, cab has to come off. Could be $3000!!!! and no factory warranty. Has anybody seen this error code? Does it really indicate high pressure fuel pump failure? Truck is going back to garage to further investigate (they did not have time when I took it in first time) and wondering what else go trigger P088 code?

did they clear the code? Did it come back? There have been more than a few high pressure pumps replaced, but usually for low pressure not to much.

Thanks for the reply. Yes they cleared it, and it came back a few hundread miles later. I purchased the truck in Florida and had a 2000 mile drive in front of me. It ran good but the service enine light came back some 5-600 miles later. Still now the truck runs good, good acceleration. Fuel consumption was actually not bad (16 mpg) if I kept it under 70mph. By the way, do you know if these trucks have a governor to limit speed? I read somewhere that Ford had a 75-80 mph limit due to factory installed tires only being rated to 85mph? I am hoping it is only a sensor or poor/bad connection or cable, but the dealer's mechanic seem to think the high pressure pump was the culprit. I'm like you, I would think a failing pump would have low pressure not high?

i'd look over the connections and clear the code again. 16 is about what I get at that speed too.
