Passing Gear

I was wondering when I am at like 50 or 60 mph and try to pass someone it does not seem to have a passing gear. Is this normal on my 2008 F250 4x4 crew cab?
It has plenty of power form the getgo.

i've never heard of a passing gear. when you are the freeway, the truck should downshift to a lower gear. what truck do you have and what rear gears?

Man I must be getting old! Passing gear is what I always called it and mine will definately kick into passing gear at 50 or 60 MPH!

There's really no such thing as passing gear as a separate gear. It's just a lower gear than the one used for cruising.

At 50-60 MPH it should downshift. Before flooring the go pedal it will be in overdrive, 0.71:1 ratio. That speed range is right on the cusp of being able to go down to the 1.54:1 ratio, it probably is going to the 1.09:1 ratio, which won't give you the engine speed you may be expecting. If it did go to the 1.54:1 ratio engine speed would be near the redline and it would immediately have to make an upshift. That's probably why it doesn't do what you're expecting.

Mine will downshift into the mid 60's. It's especially useful whenever its time to pass a honda w/ a massive wing on the trunk!
