Picked up the new truck today

I picked up my new truck today. I have been wanting one since I turned my 2005 in off of the lease. The only reason I got rid of it was the dreaded oil leak. I drove 300 miles from Jackson, MS to Destin, FL with a smile on my face the whole way. It also rained the whole way. Its a blue KR with 20's, Job 3 and just about every option except NAV. I couldn't find one with all the options I wanted. But I found one with every option but NAV and jumped on it. I can just use my Garmin and the change to buy fuel.

I tried not to peak at the fuel milage on the drive. At first it was around 17.5 which I was very happy about. However, each time I peaked after that it got worse. I used the x-plan and got 0% financing. A special shout out to my salesman Layne Smith of Hudson Ford of Madisonville, KY. I found the truck at a dealership in Collins, MS and the logistics were what I would call complicated. Anyway, it all worked out and I now have 400 trouble free miles. I sure hope it stays that way. From what I have been reading on the forum this engine seems to have had a better launch than the 6.0.

I haven't changed my signature yet.

What gears do you have? 3.73's or the new 3.55's?

Congrats and welcome to 2008 Fordland. I wish you all the luck and enjoyment I've had with mine. They are exceptional trucks.

Enjoy It!

I now have 2,025 trouble-free miles.

Fuel mileage might be on the low side, but that's because this thing is a Beast!

This is my second Super Duty. I love this truck!

My truck has the 3.73 gearing. I searched just about every dealer in the southeast for a blue KR and don't remember seeing any with 3.55 gearing. I actually would rather have the 3.55 gearing, but the truck I wanted was so specific that I couldn't be too picky on gearing. I just didn't want a 4.10 rear end because of milage. I don't do much trailer pulling and my 2005 PSD with a 3.73 was plenty for what I use it for.

I am on vacation right now and will have to get home and get it cleaned up before I can get some pictures of it. The dealer didn't prep it so it still had the plastic on the seats and moonroof sliding cover plus glue all over the windows from stickers. The kids really loved tearing the plastic off.

I am loving the truck so far. I still cannot get over how quiet it is compared to the 6.0. I went through a drive thru today and could actually hear the person taking my order. When I used to go through with the 6.0 I'd have to turn the engine off most of the time.

I bought this one so I don't have the option of turning it in at the end of the lease. It is good to see the lack of complaints on the forum. I know there have been some but it seems to be more truck dependant rather than problems with all Super Duties.

Man, there's no way I would want those airplane-like 3.55's. In fact, I'd like to have 4.10's because of the 35" tires I'm getting.

Congrats on your truck! Sounds like you got the same color as mine! I just purchased my truck two weeks ago and love it. I upgraded from a 2004 F150 to this. Gas miliage suuuucks but hey, its a huge truck and I can tow anything I want basically. I just cant wait to lift mine.

Homepukes, does your pickup have the vacuum brakes? If so do you notice any difference between the 08 and your old 05? I'd like to see a picture of the brake booster if it's got the vacuum brakes. Thanks

Actually, I fly airplanes for a living so maybe I should have made sure I got the 3.55 rear end.

Vacuum brakes? That is the first I have heard of this. It is not listed as an option on the invoice. Is this supposed to be standard equipment? How do I know if it is on the truck? I did notice today that it takes more pressure on the brakes to stop than it did on the '05.

The vacuum brakes are as of Job 3 standard equipment on all F-250's and SRW F-350's. Nobody really knows the exact reason why Ford did this but they did. If you have the vacuum brakes, you'll have a brake booster on the driver side firewall just like a gas vehicle does. They also have a vacuum pump run by the serpentine belt, but I don't know exactly where they hide that thing. Taking more pressure on the brake pedal sounds like they might be vacuum brakes.

I'm guessing to eliminate the "no brake, no steer" situation on the hydro-boost system. On my 2001 F350, if you were trying to steer and needed to use the brakes (like in spotting a trailer) it was "one or the other".

I can see the engineering concept of having separate brake and steering assist systems, but in the long run just more parts to wear out & replace. On my old 6.9 I had to replace the vacuum pump about 2 times in three years (NAPA reman units).
