I have been watching the coolant leave since i purchased my truck new. Originally i thought i was loosing a little coolant onto the ground but it was so slow it was hard to locate. After watching this for sometime now i have notice that at every 5k oil change i need to add 16-24oz of water/coolant. Since i couldn't find a leak i have done two oil analysis and they have come back with higher than normal Potassium levels. OK so its going into the engine but how. Can someone list all the places i need to look? I've already had my dealer pressure test the system but since its such a slow leak nothing showed up for them.
thanks,

EGR coolers, water pump, radiator comes to mine. Sorry to hear this. What is ford saying?
Thanks Scott for the info. I've only had it to the dealer once and the pressure test came out ok so didn't find anything. I'll check into these items and may take it back in. Its a little trouble as i have to install the filter before taking it in to the dealer so may wait till i have another issue.

I had a very similar problem with my 08 f450 wrecker. At first it was a minor leak but quickly turned into a half gallon a week!
Turns out mine was caused by what the dealer diagnosed as "cavitation". A small hole hade been burned inside the timing case cover by high pressure steam that caused coolant to go into the block, mixing with the engine oil.
Since I took truck the truck to "Qucik Oil Change" centers for regular oil changes, it was not immediately noticed that their was coolant in the oil.
My drivers, including myself, never saw the temperature gauge indicate a problem as we checked our fuids levels daily.
My problem originated from not having done the factory recommended modification on the coolant resovoir bottle where the dealer installed a "Tee" on the lower hose on the water bottle, bringing the top line of the bottle to the "tee".
Dealer stated that when your coolant bottle level falls below the top hose, no coolant is available to travel to where it needs to go, thereby creating the steam that created the cavitation burn hole in the timing case cover.
My truck first suuffered from the defective radiator crimp leak so we already had a leak issue but when the dealer replaced the radiator (under warranty) and pressure tested no leaks were immediately detectable.
I strongly suggest you speak with your dealer and ask about the radiator water bottle technical bulletin that ford has issued to see if that could be a cause of your problem.

Hope this helps...
His has had the venturi-T recall completed, but the cavitation issue may still be the cause. Great idea

my raditator was replaced after the tee was installed and since the new raditator I still notice the level is down some. It isn't at the warm line when hot.
I'm afraid to bring it to a dealer unless I'm sure something is wrong. They always try to wack me for extra stuff big time. I'll have to add it and check it again with mileage.
How long is the warrantee on the raditator for ?

i wouldn't mind adding a little now and then but 12-16oz every 5k is too much. Besides that my Blackstone report is showing high potassium which wasn't on the first couple of reports. They say normally this is a sign of coolant entereing into the engine somehow. Just did an oil change so will be sending the next oil sample out tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what it shows.

I am having the same issue. The dealer pressure tested the system about 10k miles ago and found no issue.
My latest Blackstone report at 40k miles shows elevated Potassium (19) and a ? for coolant%. More of a concern is the increase in iron (59) and aluminum (32).
The truck runs perfectly and I have no complaints, but I also do not want BIG problems.

Go to this website on the DTS main page. It talks about the cavitation leak per the Ford techs. Very good website
thanks for the info. i've seen this before but on my truck its never ran hot and never been very low below the low level line. I check it every week or two since new so i've never let it get low since i purchased it. Also, i have no oil in the coolant. I just did a Blackstone oil anaylisis and show 44 potassium so not sure if this is coolant or if its normal. Blackstone did not mention any coolant in the report. They actually said engine was breaking in very well. Anyway, i'm still loosing what looks to be around 12-16oz every 5-6K but not sure where. Thanks for the info.
