Sawtooth, I am in the same boat as you with the coolant loss and right now my 09 is in the shop with a slow leak as well. The technician thinks he has it narrowed down to the egr/egr cooler, but his fancy tool broke on him late wednesday. I hope to know more on friday and will let you know what the diagnosis is. My blackstone report also showed 0% antifreeze in the oil as of a late august sampling and the tech did not note any on the sample he pulled yesterday as well. Might have to think about a new 6.7 if things do not improve...

If you guys have taken Oil Analysis during each oil change you would see high levels of sodium or potasium, there is enough people having this issue with these trucks to have a giant class action lawsuit.
from what I have found, under the oil filter there is the oil cooler wich I believe the leaching comes from, on one side of a gasket there is oil and the other coolant.
over a period of time the coolant leaching causes the oil to sludge up and oil changes will not remedy this.
On top of that the DPF causes oil dilution from fuel in the crankcase.
I lost a truck 2008 from sludge and turbo shaft failure and the dealer denied service. I repaired the damage then a cylinder washed out with fuel,
Javier

I've taken oil analysis almost every change. I've done 5 changes now at 20K. Only missed doing the analysis at 1k. So far with Spartan i have no fuel in oil and stay around 40-50 on Potassium. Everything else looks perfect. I should be able to change the oil at 10K but not going to take a chance. By the way even Blackstone does not seem concerned with the amount of Potassium i have but i am cause i'm loosing a little at each oil change.

I too am having the same issue. I had the truck for 6 months, got it new and noticed during an oil change that my coolant was real low. All the recalls have been adressed. Called the dealer and they told me to bring it in, in the meantime I topped off my coolant. When I got to the dealer they said they needed to see it low and i shouldnt have added anything. Well it only took 2 weeks before i was an inch below the coolant cold line. Took it in they presure tested it and said it only lost 5 psi overnight which they said was acceptable. They topped it off and told me I was good to go. 2 weeks later my coolant was again low. I went in, they said there was nothing they could see wrong. When I ask them where the hell my coolant is going they look at me stupid and just keep repeating the same thing, "well theres nothing wrong, we cant find anything". Im furious, I want to know where the hell my coolant is going.

The service advisor even told me that it would be good if something major happened that way he could justify warranty work to ford. I dont want something major to happen to my truck i want those *^*&ers to fix it before something major happens. This whole thing is driving me crazy.

I know those small losses can drive you nuts. I just got the big loss, truck didn't run hot, nothin' until the heater stopped working. I'm 2000 miles past 36K warranty and now I have to buy a new radiator . . . great.

I might be in the same boat as you. I have to go Thur to dealer. Given past expierences they'll probably give me the same crap. They have a women advisor that never changed oil before and I have to deal with her.

Don't know if this is similar but I noticed that the upper hose would not be full if the coolant level in the overflow was low on my 2000 F250 and that was 9 years ago! Never had a problem and never lost fluid but cause to watch that level. If SAWTOOTH took the truck back 3 times and the same problem exists I think it is time to apply for the lemon law resolution. Keep all documentation! Suggestion: This web site carrys some weight and a customer complaint section that notifies Ford of our problems would help. If Ford wants our business than Ford should work for it! There is always the Duramax Diesel solution. After reviewing the peoblems on this website I personally would not buy another Ford Diesel. If Ford loses Ford Truck....... Ford is history.

One suggestion. The pressure Cap. Is there a pressure cap on those '08,s? If the cap was defective could the coolant evaporate out the cap unnoticed? Check it out. Perhaps it is the wrong cap.

Well looks like I have the same issue as some of you. Coolant level was fine for the first 5000 miles now its starting to slowly disappear. Cant find no leaks anywhere. The motor is totally stock & I drive like grandma most of the time. I hate to take it to the dealer because they wont find anything wrong. I might be getting a 6.7 sooner than I thought.

do you have any residue around the cap? I notice that mine will creep just a little once in a while. For me I beleive that since the motor runs so hot it will start to get pretty high in the degas bottle and I have noticed just a little white residue around the cap. Followed by I need to add a few ounces. I can tell when this is gonna happen as my temp guage usually is left of center, but will creep just right of center.

I have an appoinment Thur. and they'll say nothing is wrong I'm sure. But were is it going..From the max cold line to the Venturi Tee in 15K miles.

I've never seen mine go above the cold line even when I'm towing.
