Possible FailingTurbo

Hi everyone. The last few days I noticed when I let off the throttle I get a growling noise that seems to be coming from the turbo. The truck runs great When on the throttle no sound at all. As soon as let my foot off the noise is there. I can actually hear it over the radio. Also when I shut down I get it. When I shut down the turbo it sounds like it's growling when spooling down. I only have just over 8000 miles on the truck. It's been running perfect up to now. The dealer won't be able to look at it for at least a week and a half. I'm going to put my code reader on it this morning. Any suggestions/ideas?

It may be a problem with your clutch fan being faulty. I've heard some guys complain about the same problem. Just a thought. I notice a slite "woom" type sound once in a while after shut down. I figured since it doesn't do it all of the time it really isn't a problem. Take it into the dealership to have it looked at bud.

Checked that and the clutch fan is fine. No codes showing either. I noticed now that my fuel mileage is really dropped. With the hood up it almost sounds like it's sucking air somewhere but I can't see it anywhere. I'm going to take it to the dealer anyway today. Can't wait for the appointment on the 25th of March. I'll let you know how I make out.

turbo noise

I had a similar issue with my 08 450. My mechanic said it was probably the pressure from the turbo trapping and trying to release the gas inside. I am explaining this a little wrong, but it was a while ago when I asked him. He also said that he couldn't hear what I was hearing.

I am at 23k now. the noise stopped at about 16k for me and only very rarely does it happen. I am waiting to Banks out my truck anyway, maybe even with better turbos.

Finally got to the dealer yesterday. The shop foreman took it on the highway with me and gave it a good run. The noise basically disappeared. He feels my truck is getting too much stop and go driving and need an occasional run on the highway to keep the DPF clean. The truck is running great now except the mileage is about 6 mpg. He feels a good long run on the highway will fix the problem. I still have an appointment for the 25th of March. He said if the mileage doesn't improve to keep the appointment and the the dealer will give it a full checkover. I guess the next thing is a road trip. At least it's not the turbo failing. That really had me worried.

Turbo noise

When you hear the noise from the turbo is it from shutting it off right away? If so it could be the heat from the turbo starting to boil at the turbo/ or the high spot of the engine? Might your coolant be low at all?
