Well that sucks dude. I really hope everything works out for you. There is nothing worse than being stuck so far from home without your truck.

I don't doubt what you're saying, but ain't that what contracts are for? I mean, shouldn't there be a legal, written agreement between suppliers and the OEM on all these issues? How could Ford or any OEM come back to the supplier and demand consideration beyond the scope of the contract?
Are you referring to renewal time, or are you saying that Ford actually demands a restructuring of the agreement in mid-stream?
And to the original poster here - hang in there, neighbor. I know how stressful it is to have trouble with a brand-new vehicle. I'm sure it's but a blip on the ol' maintenance radar. I had a new truck back in '95 that blew the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing at 500 miles (found out it was a warped bell housing casting)! That was great fun, sitting on I-65 in the middle of Nashvegas that day I'll tell you...

Do a little research about GM and the Spaniard that they hired 10-15 years ago. He just up and made an announcement that ALL suppliers to GM would cut their prices by X% in order to continue doing business with GM. Carlos ?? was his name. This practice is common in business.

AHH stop crying and enjoy your for an extra day mom. Once you get that monster on 75 purrin with that 5er behind it you will forget about the problem. I would like to know how it doing towing the 5er. How does it handle.
As someone who works for a Tier 1/Tier 2 supplier, the "suicide squeeze" is somewhat interesting in the sense of the old Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times".
Basically, what happens is the contract calls for a piece price and a tooling charge and some x% year-over-year "productivity improvement" price reduction. Which puts the supplier in a bad spot when the cost of their raw materials increases (which happens pretty much quarterly): now, they're paying more for but have to sell for less. After a lot of work by several prominent suppliers, there is now a provision for material cost recovery in the contract as well -- but it's treated as a separate line item usually and you still have to cut your piece cost by the "productivity improvement" amount.
Productivity price reductions play merry cob with any attempts to recover capital expenditures (bricks & mortar and the machines that the tooling fits into), which can be a sizable chunk of the piece price.
Meanwhile, Glenn, hope they get your truck back in shape and you can tell us which hose went blooey (followed immediately by all the '08 owners running out to their trucks to examine that hose).

I had a similar situation when I bought my 02. I had 2K on the truck and was on holiday when a rocker let go. I thought I had blown the turbo from all the smoke.
The dealer was great, they said it would take a while to fix cause they needed direction from ford on whether to pull the head. They arranged a authorization for a rental from ford. They even tried to get me another truck as rental but there was non a available so I got an excursion instead.
Sucks when down time affects your holiday but be glad its not your livelyhood. There are lots of comercial operators so close to the edge that a week of down time might be the difference between breaking even and bankrupcy.
I like to remember that it can always be worse.
GShelton,
Unfortunately I understand some of your frustration as my F450 just stopped running and barely had enough momentum to get it to the side of the road. I had to have mine towed to the dealership last Friday. Today I was told that the PCM, which I believe is the trucks computer, is fried. They think they will have one by tommorrow morning, but like you I'm kind of skeptical on availability of parts. Fortunately I broke down 20 miles from my house and local dealership. If they can not get the part in the next few days I'll be all over my local dealer to take one off a new truck. Hopefully these problems are minor blips on the radar screen, but it sure is a pain in the butt when a guy has to be one of the blips.
Thanks,
Marc

The problem with the delay is that this was just a test run out before we leave for a 5000 mile run on the 12th. Plus I am away from my business.
As for towing though, I made a post in the towing section all about how it tows. It is AWESOME! Tows my 16K lb RV like it is not there.

Hmmm, I wonder if I could work that as an option. I will have to ask.

Dodge guy here: Told you so!!
Really though, it's a blown hose. It's not as if the transmission fell out in the middle of the street and there are 9 other people on here with the same problem. I'd assume it's an isolated event unless it begins to be a widespread problem. Doesn't get you home any earlier, but it needn't be the harbinger of 6.4 death.

OK, they told me yesterday that the part was being overnighted from Oklahoma. I called this morning to see when the part would be in and if they were 100% positive it was coming.
I was told by the service writer (Paul) that, "It SHOULD have been shipped overnight and if so it SHOULD arrive before 11am. Then we SHOULD be able to get it put in today."
I told him that was too many "shoulds" and that I needed to know. I made it perfectly clear that I needed to drive home and back today to take care of some business if it was not going to be completed. I made it well known it was going to be 7 hours of driving and I had to come back because the 5er is my home.
He told me he would check with parts and get back to me in 30 minutes. And hour later I CALLED HIM. He called the parts guy while I was on the phone with him. The UPS truck was there at that moment and he said they were going to go check for the part right then. He said he would call me back in 10 minutes. I was about to just drive to the dealer 30 minutes later when I decided to call him. (I CALLED HIM. Do you see the pattern here?)
He then informed me the part did not arrive which meant the OK dealer never bothered to send it. So they were pulling an 08 in from the lot to remove the piece I needed. He said the truck would not be done until about 5pm. (This was about 10:30 am) When I asked about it taking so long, he explained it was not a "coolant hose" but rather it is a "crossover pipe" and will take a while to replace. (I have not looked at the engine pictures to see what pipe this could be.)
So I am now waiting. It is 2:30pm my time and I am going to wait until about 4pm and head over there. I need to return the rental car by 5pm.
I will keep you all posted.

Glenn - you started drinkin' yet today? PM me your address and I'll have a 1.75L bottle of Grey Goose overnighted - AND YOU WON'T HAVE TO CALL ME!
Did you see the post from khitch710 above with some contacts at the dealership?
Dave, in the 34 years I have been on this planet, I have not consumed a drop of alcohol, but I am considering it today. LOL!
I did see Kevin's post and will be making contact when I get over there today. I was just glad they were willing to pull a part from another truck without me having to raise cane to get it done.

A "crossover tube"? First thing that popped into my mind was, "wonder if there is a crossover tube connecting one EGR cooler to the other EGR cooler? Might explain the time necessary to cannibilize the part and replace the bad part on your truck.

Of course it is. They aquired, installed, and sold the defective part to the customer. Yes, things can happen. In this case, Ford let it. If I were selling a product containing a conglomeration of vender parts, I would certainly check and QC those parts prior to installing and selling them. The failure should not of happened.
