Hi Stymie,

I have replaced quite a few pumps on 08's but way more steering gears(boxes). The more lift/tire the sooner it seems to happen.

steering pumps

I noticed that when my truck is stopped and I am trying to turn the wheel it is hard to do so. I have 35" tires on it, but i am not hearing any whining noise as if the pwr steering pump is going out. Any thoughts? Was your pump and gear box covered under warranty even with the lift?

that is common to PSD, as they are a hydroboost brake setup, so they are sharing that fluid with the brakes.
My pump was replaced 1 time, and my box(i guess it wasnt the pump) but my box was replaced due to a casting flaw. the pump was before my lift.

Stymie,

Thanks for the info. When they replaced your parts, did they cover it under warranty? I am curious to see if they will give me any trouble about having 35" tires.

Powersteering pump

May I suggest that you only move your steering wheel when your truck is moving? Just before the last 3 to 4 ft start turning your steering wheel the other way that you want to go. This reduces the turning distance and reduces the forces on the steering componants. With larger tires it is of greater importance. My one truck had 276,000 kms on it and the steering was almost as tight as when it was new. This technique is taught and praticed by professional drivers.
