Ok, im trading in my f250 for a newer one next year, but im stuck with the desicsion of gettin a 07 with a 6.0, or an 08 with a 6.4. Some people might say, why turn down the newer one? But im just thinking engine wise what will be the better pick, the old-school high torque 6.0 powersmoker, or the new high-performance twin-turbo 6.4(non-smoker)?

I couldn't think of an easier decision...go with the new 6.4L diesel. More power, quieter, common rail, piezo injectors, better cooling, twins. Plus the truck itself has more improvements.
Sorry, this just gets to me sometimes.
There are two sequential turbos. They are of different sizes. They are plumbed in series. They are not twin turbos, which are the same size and plumbed in parallel.
Cross-reference: '93-'95 Mazda RX7, '93-'97 Toyota Supra Turbo, '05+ Ford LCF and whatever International calls its version of the LCF, with the 4.5L V6 diesel. All two-sequential-turbo setups.
I now return you to your regularly-scheduled misinformation.

I know, it's just faster than typing "sequential".

It's about pressure ratios, mass flow rates, and compressor efficiency. A big enough compressor to handle all the pressure rise required would be very inefficient (ie, heat the air charge considerably), and have a monumental amount of lag. Two smaller, different-sized turbos mean you can have one spool quickly and the other come on for supplemental demand at higher engine speeds.

Haha I guess what he ment to say was DUAL turbos. Go with the 6.4, more power and I think with the 6.0's performance record as someone else mentioned, you have the sames odds as going with the 6.0 oppose to the new 6.4.

Who knows that the eco friendly 6.4 is going to be anymore reliable than the 6.0 was when it was released? We all hope they learned some lessons from the 6.0 leaker but with budgets like they are at Ford you never know. I'll admit improvements are good (common rail, injectors etc) but the new technology might have opportunities of it's own.
I would say get the 6.0 and give em a couple years to work out the issues with the 6.4 - But I'm one of the people who have a 03-6.0 (before I really knew anything about these) I bought an 06 6.0 so I wouldn't get stuck with the 6.4 if my 03 totally crapppped out.

The 6.4 does have more torque than the 6.0...but not much and horsepower ratings are 325 for both.I haven't had any problems w/either of my 6.0's but alot of others have.

I might be missing something here, but the 6.0 is 325 and 570. The 6.4 is 350 and 650. That seems like more than a little torque and the hp is not the same.
