Re: Questions on cab removal

Of course you fellas realize that there has to be, and there is, a procedure for performing engine work without removing the cab right? Of course you do! That procedure requires more disassembly and removal of more parts than lifting the cab out of the way does. What's more, lifting the cab allows for access to all engine components and fasteners which promotes proper assembly.

Yep, I agree. I have no problem with removing the cab. Just put it back on straight I would not want someone climbing all over the truck working on it, much easier to expose the engine and lift the cab. When your truck is back from this type of service, check all your fluids, cab alignment and mounting bolts for tightness. In addition to the crooked cab, I was about a quart low on ATF as well after my truck was serviced.

WOW...at +-$50K per truck that could be every couple or so years (depending on driving)!
Sounds like the new Diesels are no longer a (more or less)Blue Coller vehicle. But more like a rich boys toy!

Re: Questions on cab removal

I agree with ya on the cab alignment and I can see how it will drive some guys nuts. That is one thing I do pay attention to because I know that most people will have issues if it's off. Ironically though many trucks on the lot are not perfectly centered and I know for a fact that I have returned trucks "straighter" than they were brought to me. What really kills me is that it can take less than one minute to center the cab to the bed before tightening the bolts. Like it was mentioned, it slides fairly easily on the mounts... oh, you might need to get on a creeper and slide under the truck with a prybar in some cases.

I have worked with guys that thought I was nuts for "wasting my time!" I can forgive a guy for accidentally overseeing this detail considering the scale (and complexity) of the job but if its an attitude issue...

Guys, I don't mean to comondere this thread but I need a procedure that covers cab removal of a 2003 CC. Does anyone have instructions on what has to be done in order to raise the cab for head access.

Regards,
