Radiator

Had my truck in for two recalls and while the service advisor was writing it up one of the mechanics came in and said you have a leaky radiator. No visible signs but he had looked up underneath and noticed a slight (very slight) leak. They replaced it and said they have plenty in stock....Job one truck 8600 miles. Glad they found it as I am towing my 16K trailer up to 6500 feet in 100 plus temps......

There is a service bulletin out, pertaining to replacement of the radiator. There is a plastic "T" that that is to be installed when the radiator is replaced. It goes on the line from the degas bottle to the radiator and EGR coolant lines. It is supposed to equalize the coolant pressure.I just installed it on all 3 of my '08's .It is a $8. part.Very easy to install.Time will tell if it works.

Do you have the text of the service bulletin or its number? Or the part # for the plastic "T"? I'd rather not have mine blow out as I'm usually driving between 6 and 10 thousand feet :-)

SPECIAL SERVICE INSTRUCTION 08T01
CERTAIN 2008 F-SUPER DUTY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH
A 6.4L DIESEL ENGINE — COOLING SYSTEM VENTURI TEE INSTALLATION
OVERVIEW
This program involves the installation of a Venturi Tee that will prevent reverse flow of cool air/coolant from
the degas bottle to the radiator.
NOTICE: Correct installation and orientation of the Venturi Tee is critical for proper coolant flow and
to avoid cooling system damage.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
WARNING: ALWAYS ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL BEFORE OPENING THE COOLING SYSTEM.
DO NOT UNSCREW THE COOLANT PRESSURE RELIEF CAP WHEN THE ENGINE IS
OPERATING OR THE COOLING SYSTEM IS HOT. THE COOLING SYSTEM IS UNDER
PRESSURE; STEAM AND HOT LIQUID CAN COME OUT FORCEFULLY WHEN THE CAP
IS LOOSENED SLIGHTLY. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT
IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.
1. NOTICE: Correct installation and orientation of the Venturi Tee is critical for proper coolant
flow and to avoid cooling system damage.
Remove the radiator-to-degas bottle vent hose clamp and hose from the degas bottle upper port.
Insert the Venturi Tee labeled “RAD” into the radiator-to-degas bottle vent hose so that the “DGAS”
(white strip) of the tee is facing the driver’s fender. Secure the clamp into position so that the clamp
tabs are facing upward and away from the upper radiator hose. See Figure 1.
2. Measure and cut the ENGINE (EGR) hose 125 mm (4-15/16 in) from the degas bottle end of
the hose. See Figure 2.
3. Measure and cut an additional 20 mm (13/16 in) off the ENGINE (EGR) hose (EGR side of the hose
that was previously cut). See Figure 3.
4. Install the Venturi Tee clamp on to the ENGINE (EGR) hose that is still attached to the degas bottle
and insert the Venturi Tee labeled “DGAS” (white strip) into the hose. Secure and position the
clamp so that the clamp tabs are facing upward and away from the radiator hose. See Figure 1.
5. Install the Venturi Tee clamp on to the ENGINE (EGR) hose (EGR side) and insert the Venturi Tee
labeled “ENG” into the hose and secure the clamp so that the tabs are facing upward and away from
the radiator hose. See Figure 1.
6. NOTICE: The orientation of the cut end of the tie strap is critical to avoid possible personal
injury while checking the power steering reservoir.
Using the supplied tie strap, attach the radiator-to-degas bottle vent hose to the hole located in the
edge of the power steering reservoir. Tighten, trim and rotate tie strap so that the locking block of
the tie strap is rotated under the radiator-to-degas bottle vent hose. See Figure 1.
7. NOTE: When releasing the popp clamp, it will be necessary to apply slight pressure to the popp
clamp tabs and quickly twist the tool.
Install the supplied rubber cap and clamp assembly on to the upper degas bottle port and release
the popp clamp. See Figure 4.
8. Make sure that all hoses are fully seated on the Venturi Tee ports and all clamps are installed and
secured with the clamp tabs facing upward and away from the radiator hose.
