6.4L Power Stroke Engine and Drivetrain Discussion of the 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine and drivetrain in the 2008 Super-Duty trucks. No gas engine discussion allowed except on transmissions and drivetrain that pertain to all models. radiator.. bad news/good news

Well...2000 miles from home..my radiator sprang the expected leak..15000 miles on my truck. Drove into Green Bay..Dorsch Ford. Leak diagnosed..since I had my 5th wheel attached..I was in a bind. Jerry ( truck service manager) sent one of his guys to fetch a radiator..( 30 miles )..loaned me the parts truck so we could go out to lunch and had the truck fixed in about 4 hours.

Kudo's to Jerry. To bad I live in Tucson...little hard to come back for future work!!

I am going out west to see the National Parks in September. About a week before going, I am having my dealer do a once-over to make sure there are no issues. I do not expect any, but you never know. Luckily you had a good service manager to help you out. I am glad you caught it and fixed it before it was too late.

well, i am glad you survived what could have been a really bad situation. i hope you have a safe trip back to tucson.

too bad ford is started repairing all the radiators on the trucks they have in stock (and probably won't sell) before taking care of those who gave them their hard earned cash.............

i have 2700 miles on my j-3 f350 and was told last week my truck's vin was not on the latest radiator recall, yet. next week i'm gonna drive round trip from arizona to florida and back. i am hoping my radiator will make it...........

If you have your radiator replaced due to leaks, ensure that the techs install the venturi to the degas bottle. Possible reason so many are springing leaks. My 450 is in the shop now for TSB reprogramming and installation of the venturi. My radiator was replaced about 6 months ago due to leaking seam.

Just a quick question.Have any Job 3 trucks had radiator problems?I have not heard of any and I hoped the problem was fixed by the time the Job 3 came out.Mine was built 04/08

If you look at the TSB 08T01 it has the dealers installing the venturi kits on their ones on there lot Job 1 thru ones built May 2008 so they must be Job 3.

Ive had the upgraded radiator put in at 11k miles.....after it was leaking.....while towing 4k this summer the replacement radiator started leaking in Elko NV....dealer replaced it and added the venturi kit (tk had 22k on it) no problems but im a little skeptical ...

It's my turn: my 450 is in the shop today with the leaking radiator, leaking at the seam like everybody else. I just hit 18,000 miles so I consider myself fortunate compared to others who have gone through a few radiators now. I'm also having the TSB reflash done (cruise control "drivability concerns"), the seat recall, and the film inside the headlights, all at once.

What's surprising to me is that I towed the trailer up the infamous Baker grade in California towards Las Vegas in 106 degree weather without any problems but towing the trailer to 7500' elevation in 90 degree weather two days ago started the leak. The cooling fan only kicked in a few times too unlike the Baker grade where it was roaring yet the trans and temp gauges were fine.

Titaniumfan: There is a small mod. the dealer should do when you have the radiator replaced. From what I understand it relieves pressure between the coolant resevoir and radiator. I believe it is now a TSB.

Thanks, though I already printed out the Venturi valve installation page as well as the TSBs and left them in the truck on the center console to make their life easier. I honestly thought about taping the pages to the radiator but thought that idea might backfire :-)

Guys,
I'm new to the site and learning about this TSB radiator problem. I just purchased my 2008 F250 Diesel a few weeks ago. It has 500 miles on it as of now. I'm about to drive from Alaska to North Dakota towing about 6000lbs. Should I get the radiator replaced before I have a problem? Will Ford change this for me or does their need to be a problem with it first?

i read that another truck's radiator blew in flagstaff, az, which is 7000' elevation. i wonder if the increased pressure in the higher elevations could be affecting these defective radiators...............
