Regen, not me

I have a 2008 F350 FX4. Got about 1100 miles on it not, and I still dont think I have had a regen yet. At least I have never noticed one. I have been carrying a laser temperature gauge in my truck, so if I got a regen I was going to check them temp on the exhaust, and let everyone know what I got. But so far no luck. I have been buying Chevron gas, if that anything to do with it, but diesal is diesal right? I would like to know if anyone else suffers from regen envy?

Also, does anyone else have a funny gas tank. In the liars manual it says I have a 30 gallon tank (short bed), but according the liars gauge I had 9 miles of gas left in the tank. Filled up, and only put in 24 gallons. I have tried differnt pumps, but the same thing. When I fill the tank it says I have 388 miles to go before empty, but I get about 300 and the tank is empty. Am I nuts? Also for anyones info getting about 12.9 MPG according to liars gauge, to lazy to do the real math, work and old lady takes alot out of me.

Re: Regen, not me

You should have had at least 5 regens by now. Do you do a lot of highway driving and/or towing? Under these conditions, the regen is probably not even noticed.

Re: Regen, not me

I don't think running gas will soot up enough for a regen. Maybe try diesel for your next tank

Re: Regen, not me

I have 1300 miles on my 2008 F250 4x4 Lariat w/ 3.73. I have not experienced a regen while idling but 900 miles has been highway use. I did suspect a couple regens while highway traveling. My fuel gauge is dead on at 1/2 reading ie. takes 15 gal. but at 1/8 tank I put in 23 gals. My miles left till empty was around 70.
I am averaging 12-13mpg in city traffic and 14.5-16 in combined city & highway. Highway only with mixed hills avg 17 mpg all by computer. Hand calculated about .8mpg less. Hope this helps

Re: Regen, not me

I am getting the same #'s as you I think I have 950 miles on it. I felt my only regen at about 700 miles lasted about 30 sec. at 70mph My fuel gauge is about the same as yours its not even close at half, I have done every fillup between 1/4 and 1/2 tank(closer to 1/4) around 170~180 miles and about 14~15 gal. MY 99 had perfect readings on fuel gauge 1/2 tank 300 miles 19 gal 38gal tank, but the distance to empty was never even close. We make the tanks and put in the senders (from another supliar) at my plant we only check empty and full readings, if it doesn't pass the flip test it does not go to the next station. I am wondering if the computer in the truck has one program for both tanks and works for the LB but not the SB?

Re: Regen, not me

I have noticed being able to add additional 2 - 3 gals by going slow at the end of a fill. Lot's of foam. When shows empty I can only get 26 or so in. My mileage is 9 - 9.5 pulling 24' box trailer. Truck only is around 13.5. Kind of disapointed, but only 3000 miles so hoping it will get better. Other than that, love the truck!!

Re: Regen, not me

well i believe we have all experienced the foam during fill up. If these new fan dangled 08's are anything like mine filling up, i can always get another 5 gallons in after it clicks off the first time by going real slow with the pump. so if that logic is so with these, then 24 + 5 = 29 gallons. Then he said he had about 9 miles left on the tank, so that equates into about a gallon left in there. So sounds like he has a 30 gallon tank...

Re: Regen, not me

I have heard that regens are might not occur if the exhaust gas temp is already high enough for the exhaust to react with the catalyst. Example would be pulling a load.....the temps are high enough under load that the regen cycle can take place WITHOUT having to dump the extra fuel to get the temps up.

The Ford system does not do this very well.

That's US gallons, hand-calculated? If so, that's definitely a record especially in light of the truck being a 4x4.

from what I have personally been experiencing with my truck, apparently the same as yours, I would love to have the kinda mileage in town and on the highway. I been getting about 12 to 12.5 in town and about 16-17 on the highway UNLOADED and that is keeping it under about 2000-2500 tops

Re: Regen, not me

Are you sure you are just not noticing the regen? I have had the regen happen several times while driving and few times while idling. The ones that occurred during the first 1200 or so miles at idle had a really bad smell. I have not noticed the smell as of late.

Also, I too am concerned about the Distance to Empty. Mine says between 0 and 50 to empty and I put in around 24 gallons. I actually ran it about 50 miles while stating 0 miles to empty and only put in 26.5 gallons (I guess I'm a risk taker).

My mileage (all hand calculated) shot up after about 2k miles from the 11.5 to 12.5 mpg to 13.5 to 14 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. This is about .5 to 1.0 mpg less than my 00 7.3L or my 03 Duramax.

Re: Regen, not me

Most of the gas tanks on vehicles are curved to some degree. Most of the gas gauges assume that your tank has the same shape top to bottom.
Depending on the shape of the tank, divots for the retaining straps, pump on top or on bottom etc....... your tank may not have 1/4 of the total amoun tof fuel left.
Make sense?
