Repair shop again

Truck took a turn for the worse yesterday while driving down the highway. Lost all power, coasted to the side of the road, truck would idle but would not move or respond to my pressing down on the gas pedal. Check engine light on. Shut truck off for 10 minutes and restarted. Would only run up to 35 mph all the way back to dealership. Says 6 codes including code for dpf temperature sensors out of safe range. Mechanic only took quick look but said he thinks EGR is shot. Won't know complete ordeal till Monday.

Side point. Dealer will not give me anything to drive but a Fusion. I'm a contractor on job sites all week - what in the world am I going to do with that? Would not even give me a used F-150 they had on lot. Is this something that I should push Ford about or is this protocol.

Re: Repair shop again

Push Ford.

This sort of thing is happening with Halliburton's fleet of F250/F350/F450 6.4s but in their instance, if they, believe it or not, get mud in certain areas of the exhaust, it will shut the truck down.

Now, I dont know how many folk know what Halliburton does, but its oilfield work.

I guess they will have to stay out of muddy areas when drilling.

Giving you a Fusion is insulting.

Re: Repair shop again

My dad's new truck has been to the shop twice. Once for the rear end and once for a small oil leak and both times he got a new F-150 to drive.

Both times Ford has treated him well. They know his truck is used to make a living and they have fixed his truck ASAP.

Re: Repair shop again

i think loaners are up to the dealer, not ford. many do not have loaner fleets anymore, and if they do, a no charge rental.

when dealer had my 6.0 van for 6 weeks, no loaner was offered, dealer said i could rent a car from their rental fleet. luckily dealer is close to home, got ride home and drove something else in my driveway for 6 weeks.... didnt want to hold my breath to get reimbursed from ford for 6 week rental.

Re: Repair shop again

I dunno, but I feel I am gonna get bombed for this, but when my Honda Element went in for its 110,000 mile tune-up, my dealer was all "well, we dont want you waiting for 4 hours, so here's a Pilot for overnight."

"...and the gas is on us."

THATS what I call service. THATS what I call "I felt good giving them money."

Re: Repair shop again

Bring the car back to them really dirty and say, "That's what happens when you give an owner of a construction company a car".

If it were me I'd make sure lots of mud is on and in the car when they get it back.

A friend of mine had a tranny failure at 4,500 miles with his 99 Ford F350 dually and the dealership gave him a fresh trade in, it was so fresh the F150 still had the prior owners business name on it. He's in the tile business and had two other work vehicles at his disposal.

I bet money Ford treats loaners different after the 6.0 fiasco. Bet in mid to late 03 they couldn't keep a loaner on the lot. Sorry guys with 6.0's couldn't resist!!!

Yeah, but what's cheaper than an Element? What choice did the dealer have? Probably didn't have any Honda scooters left to lend...

Re: Repair shop again

Seriously though, I have always gotten a truck from the dealer. They tried to put me in a car once, but I pushed a bit and they agreed that due to my line of work, a car just wouldn't cut it.

Re: Repair shop again

Get to the sales manager and explain the situation. He should bend over backwards to keep you happy. If not, you might need a new service dept(dealer)
Yeah, but what's cheaper than an Element?
At $21,000 A Ford Escape was cheaper than my Honda Element. I shunned the Escape like a wayward Amishman.

Very glad I did, as my brother's 2002 Escape (garaged daily) is rusting around the lower door seams, like alot of Ford products. And my resale value is much higher than his.

But, I should have gotten a Ford, because they had my best interests in mind, didn't they?

If you paid more than 21K for that tin can back then, that dealer saw you coming!! I hope they gave you a lifetime supply of bags to wear. That's so you can wear one over your head so no one will recognize you in that car!!

Re: Repair shop again

I was put in a car once with my problems with the 06 I had and I told them I could not drive a car after that and the service dept has no say so in the matter. I spoke to the new car manager and the other 7 times my 06 was in the shop I either had a new crew cab F-150 or a new crew cab diesel. My new truck has been back once for some minor things and they put me right in another 08 CC diesel for 2 days. Talk to your salesman or even the owner.
