Rotella T -Not yet 2008

I use the Rotella -T 5W-40 in my 6.0 and love the stuff. I called shell to see if it was ok for the 2008 models since I have a F450 on order. A call back left on my anawering machine said the 5W-40 does not have the CJ4 certifications completed and is NOT recomended for the 2008 models. He did not say how long it would be. Bummer

Re: Rotella T -Not yet 2008

There is a rotella that is CJ4. I was told about it, and then saw it at Walmart. it was called something like Rotella triple? has a little sticker on the front of the bottle explaining its use in the new trucks. CJ4 was plainly marked on the bottle.

Re: Rotella T -Not yet 2008

i did not know about that nor did he suggest it as an alternative. He only addressed the 5w-40. I like the full syn for heavy towing. I will check out the one you are speaking of next time at Wally World

I looked it up seems like its a 10W-30W

Re: Rotella T -Not yet 2008

Walmart has Rotella 15W-40 with the CJ rating that is for 2008 trucks. I also like to to use the Rotella 5w-40 that is Synthetic but it always lags behing on any certification by about 6 months. Rotella always gets their Rotella 15W-40 certified before the synthetic because they sell more of it than the synthetic.

If you go online to their website it lists the different rottella grades and shows the one CJ-4 15W 40 oil. I too wish to run the synthetic but it is not available yet.

Rotella T CJ-4 is available in the 15-40 as we speak. Please note however that if you use synthetics you are still required to maintain the oil change intervals as listed in the owners manuals.

I am a big fan of synthetics and have been for years. I sell it in many applications that are rather demanding to say the least. However due to the cost as well as the engine oil change intervals, I decided to stick with conventional oil in the engine. Change mine every 5K.

Like K80, we have used Amsoil synthetics in the engine, tranny and rear end since our 99 F-450 w/7.3L turned 24,000 miles. Currently with 115,000 miles on the OD, the analysis we do every six months called for a change of the Amsoil one time during those 90,000 miles. That's been ideal for us because we are full time RVrs and changing engine oil at a campground can be a PITA.

However, we won't chance voiding the 6.4L warranty when we get the truck by leaving any oil in the truck longer than the recommended interval so goodbye Amsoil and hello Rotella T CJ-4.

Re: Rotella T -Not yet 2008

I think if you do some research on oil specifications, you will see that a lot of the CJ4 spec oils are at least a synthetic blend. If you want to meet the most stringent requirments for CJ4, look at the Mack and Volvo specs. You can't meet them without a synthetic blend base stock oil. I have been using (and selling) Cenex brand Maxtron 15W40 for many years with excellent results. It was upgraded to CJ4 Mack and Volvo spec last October.

Re: Rotella T -Not yet 2008

the Manual for my 2008 F-450 says you must have CJ4/SM rated oil for the 6.4. I have found that Wallmart had two types of Diesel Motor oil with this rating and one of them WAS the Shell.
