in the shop

I am without 2 of my trucks now. After twisting the driveshaft off in my GMC 5000 I was left with only the 450 to haul hay and straw. No problem, love my new truck. The first of 3 trips today and I smell something and see smoke coming from the left rear wheel well after braking. I don't have a leaking seal, I have no seal. The oil was coming out in a small stream, looked like my truck was marking it's territory at every stop. The dealer put me on rush since I have no other truck to work with now. Hopefully will get back in business tomorrow.

Any thoughts on what happened? I assume it spun the seal out. If that's the case it seems like it would have had to score the axle. I've never seen an axle seal just gone.

Re: in the shop

Seems like I've heard this same thing happen before. Something to do with bad machining/recall from Dana.
Do a search on this.....

I'm betting that you have a whole new axle coming..

Re: in the shop

I have not done the search but it seems like I have seen others with this problem. In fact as soon as I saw the leak those threads came back to me. One in particular was the guy who had his less than a week. Must be bad seals or bad install. Somewhere they have a small problem, makes for a big problem for me.

The techs are telling me Monday at the soonest and more than likely Tuesday. No parts on hand (seal and bearing) and no parts at the other local dealers either. Back to waiting for my truck.
