Is it possible to have smokeless regens. I have about 18000 miles on the truck and have never seen the regen like I have read, smoke smoke smoke. I notice the truck will pick up to about 1300 rpm sometimes after I stop, in gear or not. It will idle high for about 5-10 minutes then calm itself down, I assume this is the regen mode. There is also no soot in my tail pipe, Thanks.
Thats the kicker I see absolutely no smoke at all. Not at idle or driving down the road. I have read alot of posts about people going in to regen and smoking out everyone around them. All I have ever seen is when I am idle sometimes (usually after driving down the highway for a bit) my truck will pick its idle up to approx 1300. It doesnt do it all the time just sometimes.
You will only see the white/slightly-blue smoke if the cat. is not up to temp and a regen is started. This happens most often on colder days or when the truck is still warming up.
It's not supposed to smoke during a regen...or ever for that matter.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I was mistaken I guess when I was reading a variety of other posts for regens that all these guys were seeing a whole lot of smoke and that is what was suppose to happen, thanks again.
A lot of guys had white smoke during this past winter. I had mine blow white smoke all over the HWY one day and nearly stopped traffic. It's was about 9 degrees and I had only driven the truck about 9 miles that morning when it did it.
With the condition I can see how my DOC/DPF was not up to the right temp yet.

I beg to differ, if the cat is not hot enough fuel will build up and smoke a bit until it lights off. It's called hydrocarbon slip and it will happen until Ford reprograms the ECU to only start regen AFTER the cats is up to temp. I've had it happen about 20 times in 19000 miles. All other times the cat was hot enough to light the fuel right away and no smoke occurred . . . had a normal one today but it didn't finish so I'll probably have a smoky one tomorrow morning. The DPF will stop soot particles but not smoke (incompletely burned fuel).
My DPF is cracked anyway so it now blows soot at every takeoff from a stop.
Like i said it's not supposed to smoke, if it does something is wrong....

You keep saying that to yourself and you just might make it true . . .
I really lost the integrity of the DPF when I was pulling at 35,500 GCVW, after a number of miles of that, the DPF doesn't stop much soot and regens are much less often.
