Smoker to Non Smoker - Diesel Forum

I wandering if any more of you guys have joined the non smoker group? If you have, can you fill me in by telling me what the dealer did to your truck to fix it. MY no nothing dealer still doesnt know why mine is smoking,

Well, the dealer didnt help me, but I quit smoking and snuffing in 2003. And I'm one of the biggest anti-smoking, anti-addiction people alive.

I couldnt resist.

from what ihave read around the forums the general concensus seems to be a cracked DPF or other issue with the DPF.

Well, I've got a little over 10,000 miles on mine now and it's had black tailpipes since day one. I am getting around 15.5 MPG and no problems at all. I can honestly say that I've only witnessed 1 regen and that was the first week I had it with around 300 miles on the odo. My daddy always said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

If you have black tailpipes, then it's broke.

I agree, don't fix it, don't let the dealer even try and fix it. It seems that all of the trucks with the sooty tailpipes have one thing in common, better mileage.

i had a cracked DPF and the dealer got it right off the bat. took about a month for the part to come in. i think i got a little better milleage before it got fixed, but now i am averaging just over 16 mpg and most of that is city traffic driving.

My dealer said that the egr valve was sticking. He recenlty replaced it, but it still smokes.
